US: NKorea rejects US food aid

By FOSTER KLUG, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON – The United States says North Korea is rejecting American food aid.

State Department spokesman Robert Wood says the North gave no reason for rejecting U.S. food shipments. But the decision comes amid a nuclear standoff and North Korean plans to launch a satellite into space next month.

Wood says the U.S. will work with non-governmental organizations to help make sure the food already in North Korea gets to the needy. The North faces chronic food shortages and relies on outside aid to feed its people.

Gee, even N. Korea refuses to take the 'bailout package' if it comes with strings attached.

I can easily picture the following exchange:

U.S.: Please accept this food aid. Don't you have mouths to feed? Accept it and heed attached conditions.

N. Korea: No, no, absolutely not. We won't take it unless there are no strings attached. It should be a tribute not a food aid. No tit for tat. No tit, only tat.

At some point, the North Koreans must notice that when their ‘Dear Leader’ stands up to the US, they starve.

Fine, cut ‘em off completely. And pull out of South Korea if they don’t follow suit (not that I think South Korea would mind, much). Let the Norks freeze and starve in the dark.

Ordinary N. Koreans hate it when Chia Head does lots of posturing and stands down eventually.
They would rather have a war. Then (1) they can eat better when military reserve stock is released, (2) they can settle personal grudges against party officials and such.
(3) Finally, they want to lose the war and have S. Koreans bring in lots of food, while getting rid of Chia Head once and for all.

Yeah, Chia Pet is too busy importing wheat from Italy for his new Pizza joint to accept American food!

The North Koreans are probably afraid the food comes from China.

With the geniuses at DOS running things, they may get their wish. Watching for the ‘satellite’ launch.

Maybe we should send the North Koreans food in a form that has more utility for them, like MRE’s. Maybe they’ll take our food if we through in a little missile technology. /sarc
