Since Barack Obama has been elected, gun sales and copies of Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged have flown off the shelves. Meanwhile, there's a Russian academic all over the news predicting that America will soon collapse, "tea parties" springing up all over the country, and the stock market has been doing a great impression of Michael Richards' career since he left Seinfeld.
Is that because people have gone crazy? No, it's the reaction of sane people to the crazy as a football bat insanity that has begun to pass for conventional wisdom in large swathes of America. Living in this country today is like sitting in the back seat of a car that's hurtling towards the edge of a cliff at a hundred miles an hour while the driver fiddles with the radio and the guy in the passenger seat mocks the very idea of using brakes.
When sheer insanity becomes the new normal, people who can admit that the emperor has no clothes are left to point out:

I guess when it comes to children’s products especially, I always wondered about things being sold that were dangerous/had been recalled and any liability. I’m a furniture painter and recently did a wooden toybox built in the 50’s. Frankly, I wasn’t sure about the lid and any special safety hinges it might now require. I suppose ANY items, except maybe clothes, could be at issue, but if it happens, will sure put a damper on my summer...I’m always in the mood for yard sailing ;)
Including clothes. Haven't you read about all the children who have died from eating secondhand clothes that contained lead and phthl-whatsies? Well, I haven't, either, but they *might*, if they ate enough of them! (I'm serious, unfortunately.)

Someone needs to design a teleprompter jammer. We have the technology. We can make the teleprompter work for good not evil.

It occurs to me that the older children’s books might carry more traditional values, less deviance, and less diversity. What better way to stealthily force us into politically correct book choices than banishing the older books under the cover of consumer protection.
This is akin to book burning.
