Gridiron singed by Obama no-show
Anne Schroeder Mullins Mar 16
No offense intended, says the Obama White House. None taken, say the esteemed leaders of the Gridiron Club.
Still, in Washington, a slap does not have to be officially labeled as such for its sound to echo and its sting to be felt.
And make no mistake: President Barack Obama deciding that he is too busy to attend the Gridirons annual banquet later this month is a slap.
Hes the first president since Grover Cleveland to skip the white-tie-and-tails affair in his first year in office.
The official line from the Gridiron Club a society of Washington reporters, columnists, and bureau chiefs is, We understand.
But some Gridiron veterans make clear they dont understand. Chicago Tribune columnist Clarence Page said, People feel uncommonly saddened, miffed and burned.

What’s going to happen when Memorial Day, D-Day, and Veterans Day roll around? Will Obama be too busy to go those? I can just picture him barbecuing on Memorial Day or something.
“If you want a friend in Washington, bring Michelle.”
Snark, Snark, Snark
Well, except for maybe Ayers, Ahmadinejad and people like that.
Re: other important meetings he will miss.....
“Oh, My office sez I have to oversee nuclear disarmament”
“Oh, My wife sez we have a school play”
“Oh, My party sez I have to stay on message”
“Oh, My gut sez I won’t be welcome there”
“Oh, Harry and Nancy say I have no place there”
Oh, a game of one on one -— anyone?
“People feel uncommonly saddened....”

Oh brother. Their Messiah doesn’t show and it is the end of the world. Saddened?!? What a bunch of lame pussies.
What if President Bush had ditched this event? He had every right to, with the way he was treated by the media. I doubt the marginally talented AssJournalists would have felt “saddened”.
Let’s recall that Obama was also the first President to snub the “Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball” since its inception in 1953.
The thought of the chosen one placing a wreath at the Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier sickens me. He has no right to be within 2000 yards of the monument.
He has to ditch any event that might result in his embarrassment. His brain is mush and he can’t be trusted to respond to anything coherently. Sooner or later a soundbite is going to sink him.
It doesn't matter who the President is, it is that the President is invited every year. Since the Gridiron Club Dinner was started, every President has made sure that he attended at least the first year in his term (I'm thinking Grover Cleveland never attended, but I can't remember that detail at this point in the night). Some, like Nixon notably, never attended again, but they all attended with the first invitation.
The list of Presidents that have attended:
Benjamin Harrison
William McKinley
Theodore Roosevelt
William Taft
Woodrow Wilson
Warren Harding
Calvin Coolidge
Herbert Hoover
Franklin Roosevelt
Harry Truman
Dwight Eisenhower
John Kennedy
Lyndon Johnson
Richard Nixon
Gerald Ford
James Carter
Ronald Reagan
George Bush
William Clinton
George W. Bush
But apparantly Barack Obama's protocol advisors don't think that is good enough company to keep. So another tradition dies within his first 100 days.
If Clarence Page is miffed at Obama it serves that leftist, race mongering journalist right. I’d like to hold his coat and Obama’s too if they want to duke it out. I’d work both corners.
I’d be telling each of them that I thought it was a shame the way that guy was talking about your mama.
An awful lot of the article is devoted to proclaiming that the Gridiorn Dinner is ‘not cool’just a bunch of rusty, old DC fuddyduddies engaging in ‘musical comedy’. So, obviously our terribly, terribly cool Pres. Obama won’t go. The author works very hard at managing the news in favor of the One.
Nice clip...a classy guy.
Obama could rape and murder these journalists mothers, kill their puppies, take a dump in their living room and they would STILL cover-up for and continue their love affair with their chosen one.
I predict by the time he’s been in office 6 months the only people he will not have pissed off will be Al-Quada and Hammas.
Obama is paranoid, a narcissist and psychopathic.
He is unable to feel for or understand anybody but himself. Concern should be on the mind of anyone Obama feels is a threat or does not like, he would and will destroy a person without care or conscience.
Basically he has the psychological mindset of mass murderers, serial killers, despots and most dictators.

I was furious with Bush for the TARP incident, but he's hard to stay mad at. He's a Texan, a patriot, and an all around likable guy. zer0 won't go because he is bumbling fool. He already did one of those things with McCain and he bombed. He isn't funny and he knows he isn't. When he attempts to be funny it's always really snide sarcasm. He and his wife are both aholes through and through. It must suck to be filled with as much hate as they are. They delight in seeing people panic as they destroy our country.
Memorial day he’s announce veterans have had “special rights” far too long and something needs to be done to level the playing field.
D-Day he will announce that veterans will no longer have medical care under the VA; they must use their own insurance or pay out of pocket like everyone else.
Memorial Day he will announce the military budget has been slashed by 90% and the money diverted into his Civil Volunteer Corps.
Even Jake Tapper (ABC) is bugging them - all they all know they are getting diddley at the WH press breifings...
You have the correct answer.
I e-mailed the White House during the Bush Presidency and told him to stay the heck away from that and the correspondants dinner.
What is gained by listening to a bunch of hacks sneering and smirking a**holes pat themselves on the back while saying nasty things about you into the bargain.
