She can’t begin to even understand the willing sacrifices of our military members. She can’t relate to the needs of the military families or communities. She mustn’t now feign interest and concern.
The military takes care of its own (in most cases) and the families care for each other. They don’t need story book time from from someone who has pillow talk with the man who is anxious to dismantle the military, seeks to abandon Iraq, and wants to deny medical care to our warriors, among other things.
Laura knows her own self and won’t be disturbed by this. Laura was a great daughter, First Lady, loving wife, mother, sister in law, daughter in law. That’s all we need to know. The military KNOW Laura Bush.
I’m sure the families are waiting in excited anticipation to meet Mrs. Messiah.
History will show that Dubya and Laura restored the dignity to the White House that was previously torched by their impeached and disbarred predecessor and his silverware-stealing, and alleged wife.
On inauguration day in 2009, that dignity, as well as the respect for the presidency (and the Constitution) and our very way of life was smashed by a facile liar and his wife, neither of whom have a mere notion of common courtesy, or who care a whit about our fine customs, or who have a dash of pride in this Country; and, both of whom have frighteningly exaggerated sense of "self".

Yes, Michelle is out there reading to children because she is supporting her husband's policy of forced "community service" that will be expected from of all of us in one form or another.
Grandparents? No problem. They can read to other people's children or God forbid, be baby sitters to the children whose parents are in basic training.

I don't think it's extraordinary at all. Most Americans don't serve, don't have a family member who serves, and don't give more than lip service to those who do. Suggesting that people do more to show their appreciation to the families that do is one of the few things Mrs. Obama has said that I can agree with.
