Maybe you could remind where I "glossed" over those problems and then explain how those problems go away if we deny American companies and individuals the right to export to Mexico. You seem to believe that sending Americans to the unemployment office would correct these problems. How would that work exactly?

Then we're talking about two separate issues. You want a discussion about illegal immigration and this is a thread about trucking and trade. How does stopping American companies from exporting to Mexico end illegal immigration?
First, I was being purposely hyperbolic. Not about building the fence, but about cutting off all trade. 2nd, it was you who brought up oil as a good example not to cut off trade. 3rd, if we refuse mexican oil (or the Saudis oil for that matter), I suggest we replace it with domestic production. This would create far more jobs than would be lost in the oil sector, a sector that pays well, even in ol Mejico.
4th, the fact is mexico benefits far more from trade with us than we do with them. So using a “stick” approach as opposed to bending over and taking their threats is prudent. And if it devolves into an all out trade war, then maybe we’ll just have to make our refrigerators, computer parts, and car components here in the USA.
as for how it relates to illegal immigration, a quarter of Mexico is here in this country, that’s how. We start deporting them in masse, and then lets hear them squawk about their “rights” to infest our roads with their trucks.
