At least 26 police officers were sent to hospital with injuries and three patrol cars destroyed in a scuffle with 200 angry oilfield workers last Sunday, a Hong Kong-based human rights organisation said yesterday.

The Information Centre for Human Rights and Democracy said more than 200 security guards from an oilfield in Jingbian county, Shaanxi province, equipped with steel helmets, wooden sticks and tear-gas bombs, fought with 50 police officers on March 8.

Oilfield workers work physically hard and build muscles.
Cops hang out at donut shops.
Surprised any cops got away unscathed.

Would not want to try that in Morgan City either. Not saying the cops a smarter, just the workers are bigger and when not working tend to be a little drunk and ornery.

more than 200 security guards from an oilfield

Security guards from an oilfield: private army vs. the cops.

Yeah, but oil field security guards are even tougher than Chinese roughnecks.

Why would you need 200 security guards at an oilfield?
The chi-coms think someone is gonna come steel the oilfield?
Maybe take it to Tibet?

Maybe it’s to keep the workers from stealing or vandalizing the equipment. Or maybe the field is worked by convict/slave laborers.

Good point both.
Remember when the Israeli govt. gave the Pali’s all those greenhouses and the palis hocked all the stuff and to heck with the ability to grow food.
And I have heard of convict labour in China, not sure most aren’t just protesters there though.

Certainly a lot of "convicts" in China didn't do anything we'd consider wrong. (But just wait a few years ...)
