I agree with the sentiments posted here except that I’m surprised no one has mentioned his single best movie, Enemies: A Love Story. An absolute masterpiece.
I talked to him for hours a few years ago at an Oscar party and his brain was like a turbine. I'm trying to remember if he said he started out somewhere in government like the State Department before changing to acting. Anyway, he will be hugely missed.
I was very sorry to hear of this last evening. Silver was a man of conviction, and seemed to change his mind and speak up when he realized 'the right' was right on certain matters.
He spoke out in favor of the war in Iraq, and thus the mention that he was a political activist.
Perhaps it's just my take on this, but the 'political activist' mention was somewhat of a slap here. The Hollyweird set has many people who make political comments all the time. I don't see them labeled political activists.
If anything these people are listed as the ultimate geniuses of our time, humanitarians to the last. Here Silver is escorted out as a 'political activist'.
Ron's only infraction is that he didn't advocate for communism in the United States. If he had, he could have been one of the greats. (as the Hollyweird set sees it)
I appreciate Ron's support for the war. I am very sorry to hear that he is gone.
I hate cancer.
Anybody remember him in Chuck Norris’s best (and little-known) movie, SILENT RAGE??
So sad to learn of Ron Silver’s death. He will be so very missed. May his family be comforted and may he rest in peace.
Ron Silver was really in a league of his own in terms of intellect and brain-power, compared to the poseurs in Hollywood and NYC.
I can't think of any actor, even Ronald Reagan, with the incisive mind that Ron Silver had.
I was very, very sorry to hear that he had passed.
May his family be comforted and his memory be blessed.
Oh no! He’ll be missed for sure. Condolences to his family and all who loved him.

Ron Silver is Honored at the Restoration Weekend 2007.
3 min 53 sec - Nov 21, 2007
While so many in Hollywood of late have no college background, some even being high school dropouts, Ron Silver had a masters degree in history. A true intellectual in a sea of vapidity. At one point, he was considering a career not in Hollywood, but Langley, VA.
Ron was an old school liberal who was abandoned by the Democratic Party. RIP Ron.
