It was only introduced on March 9th. It has 25 co-sponsors and was voted out of the House Committee on Education and Labor on March 11th by a vote of 34 to 3. They've even got a Press Release on it and how wonderful it, and they, are, and a "Fact" Sheet too. That means quite a few supposed Republicans voted for it.
Heres the committee vote:
ROLL CALL #1 BILL: H.R. 1388 DATE: 3/11/2009
(It's a PDF file)
24 Dems voted for it (all of those who voted). 10 of 13 Republicans who voted, voted for it. The three who did not are Wilson, Kline and McClintock. 5 Democrats and 6 Republicans did not vote.
I don't think this is the sort of bill that will require 60 votes in the Senate, unless someone attempts a filabuster, It'll sail through the house like grass through a goose. I doubt the pubbies will "waste" political capital trying to stop it in the Senate, but stranger things have happened.
Then the RINOS should be voted out of office. If we don’t do it we are keeping the enemy on the inside. These guys/gals are worse than the MSM.
Have come across any costs estimates? Congressional Budget Office doesn’t seem to have anything on H.R. 1388?
From 2007, CBO has a H.R.2857, “The Give” Act with costs over $6 billion. The Bills are probably different enough that you can’t really compare costs.
Thanks for your links. I wanted to see which Republicans voted for it in the Committee.
Thank you for the link to HR1388. I downloaded it. Wow...what a read. Extremely hard to decipher. I did manage to see on page. 258 lines 7-11, the appropriations of 100,000,000 for the year 2010, and after that 2011-2014 “such sums as may be necessary for each fiscal year”. So where is this money going to come from?
Thanks for the Press Release and (ha, ha) Fact Sheet links. This whole thing is da**ed chilling. Time for me to fire up and write some letters to the editor....
