“The Obama Youth versus the garage sale crowd. That, I suspect, is part of what Atlas shrugging might look like. More on this later.”
I totally agree. It also plays out in lifestyle. I see shruggers as those who take personal responsibility for all health care, who give birth at home, home school, and grow as much food as possible.
That reality against the “too posh to push” birthers who want a c-section paid by the government, bottle feed with government baby formula, free day care, free pre-school, free k-12, free housing, free food, free college...it never ends.
Shruggers are those who KNOW that all of these freebies come with a cost and are NOT the best for our posterity.

Because Rand makes it important in her book. It's part of her philosophy. We all probably agree with her about the government, but not all of us agree with her about the "free love". ;-)
Here is another Obama program that could have come straight out of Atlas Shrugged:
The Give Act - completes Public Allies New Leadership for New Times.
This program is modeled after Saul Alinskys “Peoples Organizations” and is to be operated by dear Co-Leader Michelle Obama. The program is also known as the “civilian corps” or the one I think is more accuate “The Obama Youth”.
Correction, it is the GIVE Act - Generations Invigoration Volunteerism and Education (GIVE) Act, passed the house by a vote of 321 to 105 on March 18, 2009. Let’s hope the Senate fillibusters it!
Previous on Dagny and Hank’s sexual relationship included -
I guess I missed the boat on the importance of Dagny liking her hair pulled,

What I wanted to say on this, which I don’t think I’ve read earlier, is that this is a fairly classic Dom/Sub type of relationship that they have going, and the foundation of that type of relationship, for better or worse, is TRUST between the two.
This allows Dagny to have some time when she can hand over control to Hank, since at all other times she is the only one who really is capable of controlling situations. Hank finds respite from having to hold all his feelings (much anger) inside and Dagny trusts him not to go too far. I’ve heard of otherwise high-powered women who come home and have a submissive relationship with their husbands. I find the bruise and blood a bit troubling, but I just wanted to note that finding someone she actually trusts in all respects is a level beyond having a kindred spirit and I think that’s important.
Interesting point. I don’t mind Dagny’s decision to be submissive in the relationship. But, the bloody/bruise part took it too far, just as you said.
