Good....Less kids will become addicted. No conservative should support smoking.
The Brady people could easily make the same argument about ammunition and firearms.
Hmmm...wonder what you do we could tax
No Conservative would suppor this tax
“Good....Less kids will become addicted. No conservative should support smoking.”
They’ll just switch to marijuana - it’s more socially acceptable, cheaper, and available.
Can we support them?
What’s your vice? Maybe they should raise the tax on that, for your own good.
You are kidding yourself if you think that this will keep kids from smoking. And as a conservative, I have no problem with people smoking. That is a part of liberty and freedom. If you are a conservative, and approve of this tax, you should maybe do some re thinking about the issue.
I’ve gone back and forth on this issue. I agree that the more they tax these smokers the fewer smokers there will be (or black market sales) and the less income to the coffers. I also agree that no smokers at all would be a super huge reduction in health care costs so the fewer there are the better. The down side is the tax & spend mentality. When the smokers go away, the dem’s will never spend less, they will just raise taxes on all the non-smokers’ income to cover their expensive menu of entitlement services they’ve created. so for that reason, I say no more cigarette taxes and no more programs that need to be funded.
I am a Conservative and fully support my right to smoke.
Smoking for children is already against the law. If parents cannot control their children and keep them from smoking, I should not be penalized.
Maybe we should raise the cost of ammo, to keep kids from shooting up schools.
No conservative should support sticking his f’n nose in other peoples’ use of a (for now) legal commodity.
Good....Less kids will become addicted. No conservative should support smoking.
Oh those pesky freedoms. I guess you don’t advocate personal responsibility like a true conservative. I never saw you write liberal before. This is very new and disappointing. Next I guess you will advocate doing away with sweets, baked goods, fast food, guns and alcohol all of which would be for good of the children as is your trademark (at least in your last post).
Another “Progressive Republican”, huh?
I don't think to smoke, or not, has anything to do with conservatism.
Nice to see you’ve joined obuma’s tax team. You should consider going over to DU because you sure don’t belong here.
Smoking has zero to do with conservatism.
“No conservative should support smoking.”
What the hell is the link between non-smoking and being a conservative?
Another logic-twisting poster!!
What about alcohol? Coffee?
This STILL a relatively free country. Some smoke, some drink, some done one or the other or none.
FREEDOM means something.

You completely miss the point. It’s not a matter of “supporting” anything EXCEPT for FREEDOM OF CHOICE!
Using government coersion (in the form of taxation here, and more and more restrictive laws everywhere on tobacco consumption) to FORCE SOCIAL CHANGE is most emphatically NOT a conservative gambit, and you should rethink your political stance if you think it is the government’s business to perform “social engineering” on the populace.
They are already going after the fatties, now that they have sufficiently ostracized smokers.
What’s YOUR personal foible? I *would* hope that it, whatever it is, the government and the nannies go for next. I CANNOT wish that upon you, or others who share your purported “weakness”, despite your cheerleading for those who wish to control the activities of other law-abiding citizens, simply because that would debase my argument, and make it moot through my stooping to the level of the control freaks.
No, I don’t smoke. Nor am I obese. I just despise nanny-statists and their supporters, of which you appear to be one or the other, judging by what I’ve read from you.
A resourceful kid would just stand in front of one of those no smoking joints and get the almost virgin butts from the outside ashtray. Sure beats the gutter butts we had to smoke when money was low.
