She adopted from Mexico or Guatemala, and I think the jury is out regarding selfishness, as maybe this was the greatest thing to happen to that baby girl. Maybe cancer shook up Laura's priorities, and certainly it must have worked out wonderfully for the two involved. Two parent households are best, but not everyone gets one (some parents die).
But people here were so supportive. You'd think Laura could handle someone who struggled with their weight, since she has struggled with finding a husband.

Babies from those two countries have a long line of people waiting to adopt them. Guatemala recently made out of country adoption much more difficult. I’d think only disabled babies might not have the opportunity for a family to want them.
