US warships head for South China Sea after standoffTim Reid in Washington A potential conflict was brewing last night in the South China Sea after President Obama dispatched heavily armed American destroyers to the scene of a naval standoff between the US and China at the weekend.
Mr Obama’s decision to send an armed escort for US surveillance ships in the area follows the aggressive and co-ordinated manoeuvres of five Chinese boats on Sunday. They harassed and nearly collided with an unarmed American vessel.

Now, wait a minute. It was only hours and maybe a day ago, that many posters were criticizing Obama — ahead of time — for “acting wimpy” and that he was going to apologize and do nothing. And everyone was saying “Yep, yep, yep..., that’s what is going to happen.”
But now that Obama acts in the way that everyone originally wanted, i.e., defending our ship’s rights to be in those waters — how can one criticize? That’s exactly the action that everyone wanted.
You can criticize Obama on his liberal policies and oppose them when they warrant it and they surely do, but in an instance where they don’t — at least, he did the right thing...
I didn’t vote for him and I never would, but I can see that one thing or another thing he does happens to be right — even if he does 99 things wrong... LOL...
His approval numbers are falling. What better way to reverse that trend than start a skirmish. Wag the dog. Isn’t that what they called it during the Clinton years?

To have Obama apologize to China, like some said a day ago, that he would do — would be a charade. To protect our ship in International waters — no, that’s our right and that’s exactly what all the posters were saying should be done (except that they didn’t believe it would be done...).
They are letting him make decisions now? Not sure how I feel about that. On one hand, could it make things worse? On the other, 48 is a bit late in life to start.

We should all be nervous. Hopefully he has the sense to let the adults at the DOD make the decisions.
