COLUMBIA, South Carolina (CNN) -- The United States faces a Zimbabwe-style economic collapse if it keeps "spending a bunch of money we don't have," South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford said Wednesday.
Sanford, a Republican, has been an outspoken critic of the Obama administration's $800 billion stimulus plan. He said he'll turn down about a quarter of his state's $2.8 billion share unless Washington lets him use that money to pay down debt.
"What you're doing is buying into the notion that if we just print some more money that we don't have and send it to different states, we'll create jobs," he said. "If that's the case, why isn't Zimbabwe a rich place?"
Zimbabwe has been in the throes of an economic meltdown ever since the southern African nation embarked on a chaotic land reform program. Its official inflation rate topped 11 million percent in 2008, with its treasury printing banknotes in the trillion-dollar range to keep up with the plummeting value of its currency.

Great photo op. Is a Reagan emerging from the rubble? How is Sanford on individual liberty?
He sounds brilliant. What is his inner circle like?

What’s with the Sanford photo CNN is using on their site? Is that the only one the MSM has ever taken of Sanford?
They must think it makes him look nervous or sinister. Whenever I see it I think he knows the MSM is dangerous and he’s simply watching his back.

He is a strong conservative. He has nibbled at the GW apple a bit, but I think that was a temporary brain fart. Will have to keep our eyes on him, but lets not make a big deal yet. We don’t need him to get palinized just yet. 2012 is a while off yet.

GW should be dead by 2012, plus I'd rather he get vetted early on by the media not late as Palin did. They murdered her and she was like a deer in the headlights.
McCain's PR team did not help Palin at all either.
Remember the press savaged Reagan from his Time to Choose speech all the way until he died. I think it helped. It thickens the skin and focuses the mind or undoes it which tells a lot about a persons character.
Obama’s media pass did not make him stronger as proved by his telepromterphilia. It is like a teddy bear, cuddly blanket or pacifier, but he is a grown man.

The Zimbabwe analogy also hints that 0bomo is just another stupid African dictator. Will the drive-byes bring in this racial angle?

I think they’ll try to ignore it, because the racial grievance angle will not outweigh the harm of the sheeple being educated about the perils of printing limitless fiat.

your point is well taken. I guess its more me at this point. I was hoping for a change of heart in the media as zero destroys the country and they begin looking for someone with very different ideas about how to change things. A girl can dream, cant she? :)
