Obama: No earmarks, after this

He says the spending bill, which includes thousands of them, is too important to wait.

WASHINGTON -- As a candidate, Barack Obama once said that a president has to be able to do more than one thing at a time. Wednesday he proved it, though not in the way he had in mind.

He criticized pork-barrel spending in the form of "earmarks," urging changes in the way that Congress adopts the spending proposals. Then he signed a spending bill that contains nearly 9,000 of them, some that members of his own staff shoved in last year when they were still members of Congress.

"Let there be no doubt, this piece of legislation must mark an end to the old way of doing business, and the beginning of a new era of responsibility and accountability," Obama said.

He said, however, that it was crucial for him to sign the $410 billion bill as soon as it arrived at the White House from Congress because it's needed to finance much of the government for the rest of this fiscal year. It was largely written last year but was held back while Republican George W. Bush was president because he opposed it.

"I am signing an imperfect ... bill," Obama said, "because it's necessary for the ongoing functions of government, and we have a lot more work to do. We can't have Congress bogged down at this critical juncture in our economic recovery."

“Obamah’s “Read My Lips” moment?”

The MSM created the ‘read my lips’ campaign to help Clinton defeat Bush. The MSM will never, ever abandon its subservience to The Messiah, because to do so would be to admit it was wrong to enthrone him.

Some things (and people) never change, despite political slogans to the contrary.

We can't have Congress bogged down at this critical juncture in our economic recovery ...

Ah, you see the key words, we can't have CONGRESS get bogged down, blah blah blah. Nothing about him and his minions getting "bogged down" going after people like Rush Limbaugh. Apparently there's nothing wrong with that. Going after those who disagree with The One True Messiah is important stuff.

Here’s what I picked up.

1- A Federal earmark that’s wanted by a certain lobbying or Politician-donating entity in your CongressCritter’s home STATE is not pork.

2- Pork is a Federal earmark in someone else’s CongressCritter’s home State.

3- If a State Governor asks the Federal Government for money for a special project, it’s neither an earmark nor pork, it’s a ‘necessity.’

4- State Governors have a limited supply of State Income based on population, sales taxes, etc. and some States have “Balanced Budget” mandates.

5- If the STATE Governors could include the projects that Federal Earmarks pay for, then there would not be any Federal earmarks, but many States are hindered by the supply of income and that “Balanced Budget” mandate.

6- Since the Federal Government has an unlimited supply of money (and can print more if they run out), States and CongressCritters lobby for earmarks and pork.

7- It’s all . . . Obama’s Fault. He claims there is no pork in bills he signs.

For those not familiar with the Exodus account, when God hit Egypt with the Plague of the Frogs, Pharaoh called for Moses and when Mose came, Pharaoh told him to ask God to remove the frogs. Moses asked him when he’d like God to do that, and Pharaoh said, “Tomorrow.”

So, Pharaoh wanted “one more night with the frogs,”

We’re like that with our pet sins. “I’ll give that up . . . tomorrow,”
