IRA = Irish Republican Army.

Republican here means believing in and upholding the Republic of Ireland. It has no connection to the Republican party in the US.

Thanks but that is obvious that they are not related and no one was questioning this. What I asked is do the British use the term “Republican” to describe the IRA. Freeper Briton answered that it is the IRA that they call themselves Republicans after the Republic of Ireland.
