WASHINGTON (AFP) The United States said Wednesday it would call on the Group of 20 nations to support their economies throughout the global economic crisis and endorse an IMF proposal to measure their efforts.
Ahead of a G20 finance chiefs meeting in Britain this weekend, Washington laid out its approach to countering the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression and making sure such a crisis does not happen again.
President Barack Obama called for a two-pronged G20 effort to fix the global economy, using stimulus and regulatory reforms.
"We've got two goals in the G20," Obama said at a joint media appearance with Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.
"The first is to make sure that there is concerted action around the globe to jump-start the economy. The second goal is to make sure that we are moving forward on a regulatory reform agenda that ensures that we don't see these kinds of systemic risks and the potential for this kind of crisis again in the future."
The comments came amid a rift between the United States and some European leaders over the direction of crisis efforts ahead of an April 2 summit of G20 developed and developing countries in London.
The G20 meeting of finance chiefs and central bank governors on Saturday in Horsham, England, is to lay the groundwork for the London summit and coordinate efforts decided at an emergency G20 Washington summit in November.

Nobody’s here in the US economically. Let’s pull some dude off the street to make a statement.
Looks like Obama is too liberal for the Europeans.

This is what happens when you elect a Commie Kindergartener.
I’ve been reading quite a bit about this. The USA is not leading. The problem is growing, if not multiplying.

"A liberal is someone who feels a great debt to his fellow man, which debt he proposes to pay off with your money."

I’m still not sure he actually got more votes.
G20 is going to have their world rocked in London by millions of protesters who will make WTO Seattle look like a TeddyBears picnic
Economists are deservedly giving Obama and Geithner low marks. Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dummy!!
‘Brain’ and ‘trust’ should never be used to describe this debacle we have in the White House. :)
Oh YES HE DID!! Were they legitimate?
We don’t pay people to vote, we don’t cheat. Conseratives need to start volunteering to watch over voting sites.

"Without him, I wouldn't have had to pay any taxes, ever."
It’s sure as hell is not the ‘economist’s’ fault. They don’t set policy or enforce the rules.
“Economists are deservedly giving Obama and Geithner low marks. Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dummy!!”
I glanced at the TV this morning. They said Obama was pushing Geithner to do more pressers, TV etc. so he can get more experience doing the public speaking type thing, thereby giving more confidence to the market.
I muttered to myself “Obama’s trying to win the economic problems the same way he won the election”.
Okay - that makeup and teleprompter smooth talking is proven to get one elected even if they are an idiot. Pretty sure though that the business and government leaders of the world are looking for actual solutions and decisions, not just a bunch of pretty words.
CNN accidentally aired live people voting multiple times. For Obama in Philadelphia. The correspondent was more than cool with it.
College kids from Masshole take busses, cars, caravans etc from Masshole to take advantage of the Voting Laws in NH.
It is astounding.. I have driven to the border and watched it happen. Hillary had busloads from NY and PA the weekend of the Primary.
I agree with you.
With Barry and Tim “Turbo Tax” together, I was thinking more like brain f*rt !!
