Police: Corpus Christi State School staffers staged fights among disabled residents
Dallas Morning News ^ | March 10, 2009 | EMILY RAMSHAW

AUSTIN – Profoundly disabled residents at the Corpus Christi State School have been forced into "fight club"-style battles by the employees hired to care for them, police alleged Tuesday.

Corpus Christi Police Capt. Tim Wilson said vivid video footage captured on cellphone cameras shows staffers goading young male state school residents into physical altercations, then shoving them at each other to ensure that fights ensued.

The brawls are captured on repeated videos filmed during 2007 and 2008 – with one that appears to have been taken last month. Wilson said they show “staged events” where mentally and physically disabled residents push, kick and punch each other, then have their arms raised in victory when they “win.”

Eleven current or former state school employees were identified in the videos, state officials said. "Workers were staging fight clubs with the residents for their own entertainment. It's child abuse -- some of the worst I've seen in over 30 years," Wilson said. “I’ve heard of isolated incidents before, but what’s most appalling is that it’s obvious this is organized.”

The news comes while lawmakers are debating how to reform the embattled state schools for the disabled, which came under fire by the U.S. Department of Justice late last year for systemic abuse and widespread civil rights violations.

On Monday, the Texas Senate unanimously approved a bill to protect state school residents from mistreatment – a measure deemed an emergency by Gov. Rick Perry. The Corpus Christi allegations are “disgraceful, unacceptable,” said Rep. Patrick Rose, D-Dripping Springs, who, in addition to filing the House state school safety bill, has authored legislation to close some of the state schools in favor of community living.

This is just the beginning. These sick people must be excised from the human race. The Texas Rangers should be investigating, not HHS. HHS will cover it up.

Government employees? Check.

Union members? Check.

Intolerant bullies? Check.

Fun-seeking - at other people’s expense? Check.

Racist? Maybe.

Liberal? Most likely.

Christians? Not in actions or deeds.

...

Obama voters? Almost certainly!

South Park dark humor aside, it is unlikely that these “people” who participated in the deprivation of rights under the color of authority will live to sentencing. As well as the HHS staff that knew, condoned, and encouraged this behavior. These people are going to look over their shoulders for their entire brief lives.

The Texas Rangers should be investigating

Well someone from the NHL should definitely investigate this overlooked talent pool.

As just as that may be, it’s a myth. Truth is that even the most violent pedophiles make it out of prison just fine. It’s rare that anyone on the inside wants to make anyone pay for crimes they committed on the outside. You’re more likely to be beaten for being a snitch than any form of depravity.

OK, I wasn’t sure if you found some humor in what has happened at the school in Corpus or what, exactly, the picture meant.

Please re-read the statement. They will not even make it to sentencing, let alone be incarcerated. Anyone that has ever had dealings with HHS regarding a family member or loved one understands this.

Let’s see South Texas, Corpus Christi, “state employees” , highly unlikely to be of Viking decent.

“authored legislation to close some of the state schools in favor of community living”

Some years ago, the leftists persuaded the legislators to close the PA state mental hospitals “in favor of community living” using some rare occurrences of abuse against mental patients as their excuse. Of course, what this did was put the mentally ill on the streets.

Uh, that would be Pelican Bay State Prison in Northern CA. A number of years back corrections officers where purposely placing inmates from different gangs in exersize yards in order to intigate fights for which they placed bets on. Or, so the charges alledged.

That a law has to be enacted to protect these people is evidence as to the depths our society has sunk. This makes me as angry as abortion does. What is really wrong with people?????

BTW thank you for your service :) xo
