There is already such a monstrous amount of regulation regards food product that it makes it difficult if not impossible for anyone but big companies to bring anything to market.
The only way to bypass/avoid some of the BS is to sell at point of harvest (farm stand type thing). Then you only have to comply with local health dept standards and not the FDA. So do I understand correctly than the Fed now intends to stick its grubby little hand down to the local level that I just described? Because a person/farmer that for instance grows fruit and sells their own jam and ice cream would fall under the loose terminology of storage of food and food ingredients.
When I talked to my lawyer sister about selling my plum soda-pop syrup she said you don’t even want to think about it, it is such a nightmare just the labeling aspect.

this year it's peanut farmers that are taking a beating because the media doesn't report that the peanuts came from China.

You are right as I had absolutely no idea they weren't USA grown. Lies and damn lies by the media.

Effects anyone growing food even if they are not selling it but consuming it.

So, what, we have to have our home-grown tomatoes inspected by the feds before we can eat them?

So this is how they are going to get America back to work - write bills that will necessitate the inflation of already bloated bureacracies with newly hired "agents" tasked with going to citizens' homes, clipboard in hand, to check their victory gardens and kitchens.

Then, they will grade the gardeners "Fail" and order them to purchase all kinds of "safety" appliances and cleansers in order to meet with government standards before they can grow any more zucchini. Said necessary appliances and cleansers will cost about half the homeowner's take home pay because the manufacturers of these necessary appliances and cleansers will have already had a union voted in (due to the card check act) which raises the cost to make the product about 90% more than what it normally would be.

Three months later, the agent with the clipboard arrives again at the home to do a follow-up to check that the necessary government approved appliances and cleansers have been purchased and are being used. Homeowner states he couldn't afford the necessary appliances and cleansers so decided to not grow food at home. Agent with clipboard writes up a ticket that states that even though homeowner is no longer growing food at home, he still needed to purchase necessary appliances and cleansers because he didn't have them in the first place (even though homeowner did not know he had to have them in the first place) and homeowner will now be assessed a huge fine for disobeying the government. Failure to pay fine will incur a lien and possible confiscation of homeowner's property.

Communism 101.

In the case of the peanuts, they may not have been the source but the American growers are taking a serious beating because the media hasn’t bothered to tell the whole story again.

Now all the ranting I do will really start making sense to people...

Through this, the gub'mint will know who is growing food and who is growing enough to sustain population X.

There is no reason to create something like this especially in the mess we are in - unless of course there's a darker reason.

Starving people into submission is a great way to win...

Thank you for posting this.

I have sent this to everyone I know. My Mom read this and immediately contacted the owner of our local organic market to offer her PR services to establish a local campaign to oppose this outrageous legislation.

"This year it's peanut farmers that are taking a beating because the media doesn't report that the peanuts came from China."

I have read several accounts that represent that the contamination of the peanut products came during the manufacturing process, and that it is highly unlikely that the raw peanuts themselves were contaminated.

2009 - This crap gets passed

2012 - 50% of small farms forced to sell to large corporations

2015 - 80% of small farms wiped out

2016 - High prices create an economic ‘food bubble’

2019 - Food bubble pops, Big Food companies declared ‘insolvent’ and ‘too big to spoil’, then ‘rescued’ by the federal government before they can file for bankruptcy.

2020 - $20 gallon of spoiled milk

2021 - Obama’s 4th inauguration

(I kid with the last one, of course)

(I hope)

I agree that the plant was a sewer and was ultimately responsible. As far as the peanuts are concerned we don’t know if they were contaminated or not. My point is that the media didn’t report the whole story so Americans can’t make their own informed choices.

Other processing plants in the area were buying from local growers who have been hit with a severe drop in sales. Many of those growers will go under because of a false perception that American peanuts are unsafe.

Something I’ve been thinking about this morning is the mindset. It seems that every time we see a company buying from outside the country, a “we don’t care” attitude sets in. After all, how many companies have been caught selling tainted products from China only to turn around and buy more tainted products from the same place.

If Obama gets elected for a 2nd term (God forbid!), I figure that's the time he and his Dem backers will start babbling about changing the Amendment about term limits for Presidents. They'll start pushing for that the day after his 2nd inauguration. That way they'll have 4 years to change the Constitution in their favor.

He couldn't be that stupid to suggest that now.

You sound like you’re channeling Ayn Rand...

There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws.

Maybe it was all caused by a disgruntled employee taking a dump in a processor the day he was being fired.

The burdensome requirements the bill imposes on small farms and the intrusive federal control it creates over small farm operations threaten the future viability of sustainable agriculture and the local food movement.
