The author of that piece is no “phoney” he was a Protestant Bishop, 100 years ago, before converting to Catholocism.
Read it all.
And, he did not mean that you were “saved” simply by owning a Bible.
He made it clear that throughout most of history, it was impossible for Christians to own a Bible.
They were far too expensive and far too rare, and, for the early Church, the Bible did not exist as a single text, as it does today.
