It’s a “spy ship”. So what! I assume it was in international waters. What I don’t understand is how they put this ships out there without any air or sea escorts. Remember the Pueblo? Remember the Liberty? Would those incidents have happened if there was an Aegis cruiser or a destroyer lurking a few miles away?

Those ships are always by themselves, unless actively participating in an exercise.

Why would you want to let them know that a Los Angeleles or Sea Wolf may be lurking nearby. A periscope photo of one of their ships in its crosshairs would be nice!

I agree. I saw the caption “unarmed Navy ship” and wondered, why the hell do we even have a Navy ship without weapons or escort? It’s the freakin’ Navy! You know, SHIPS WITH WEAPONS!
