None of these from what I read were actual war ships — if they were, I would be concerned.
In the 80’s, we used to get harassed by all kinds of whack job’s (green peas, USA haters, chicks with hairy legs), primarily because the Destroyer I was on kind of attacked whack job’s.
But shortly afterward, two of the Chinese ships stopped directly ahead of the Impeccable, forcing it to an emergency stop in order to avoid collision because the Chinese had dropped pieces of wood in the water directly in front of Impeccable's path, the Pentagon said.
So, after five days of harrassment, they told the Chinese they were leaving the area but were still harrassed. It sounds as if the order has already been given to retreat, which predictably encouraged the Chinese to increase the harrassment. If it works, do more of it.
Of course, that's speculation. Maybe they got what they came for and were leaving. But it's seldom a good idea to give the appearance of retreating under pressure like that.
I would guess that this is, in our view, international water, but that the Chinese probably claim it as their territory, and maybe there are oil reserves there.

A bit over half of American voters elected a man with good public speaking ability when they needed to elect a man with wisdom. If he were only inadequate to the challenges he faces, that would be concern enough. Unfortunately, he is convinced he should also send the greatest nation on earth in the direction of the stale, oppressive nations our forefathers escaped to be free. I hope he is also inadequate to that challenge.

Yes, he IS in over his head and he is assuming his great orator skills will be able to keep his butt out of hot water. He, like other liberals, never understand that talking only works when BOTH parties are civil. They have no other strategy when the other party doesn’t want to “talk”.
