Those type of insurance plans were prevalent about 35 years ago, especially with pediatricians and dentists. The doctors liked them for new baby wellness appointments because it encouraged patients to keep up with inoculations and it kept the money coming in on a steady basis.
Dentists liked them for similar reasons, they got paid up front over time, instead after the work was done.
