First Lady Michelle Obama is doing a “wonderful job” during her first few months in that role, one of her predecessors, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Sunday.

In an interview with the Turkish television show “Haydi Gel Bizimle Ol,” Clinton spoke about Mrs. Obama, her entry into politics, and her life with her family today.

“I was a First Lady, and I know how important that role is, and I think that Michelle Obama is doing a wonderful job,” Clinton told the hosts of the show, which has a name that translates to “Come Along With Me.”

“And she is also balancing her responsibilities very well. She has two young children, and she has put their wellbeing first,” Clinton added. “So I think she’s going to be a terrific ambassador for our country.”

Clinton also claimed she had never thought about entering politics for herself before running for the New York Senate seat and, eventually, for president.

“Toward the end of [husband Bill Clinton’s] term, when people approached me about running for the Senate in New York, I initially said absolutely not; I wasn’t going to do it,” she told the young Turkish audience. “I wanted to stay involved in helping people and working on policy, but wasn’t sure I wanted to run for office myself.”

Clinton also said she had no intention of becoming Secretary of State, and had instead wanted to go back to being a New York Senator.
