Neither am I. According to Mexican not American accounts, they lost a hell of a lot more then 300 men during the attack. Typically leftists try to down play anything that is revered in this country.

Yeah. I was just reading something about this the other day. The article said that the low side was at least over 400 Mexican soldiers killed. I don’t know why the lefties feel they need to attack and destroy what happened at the Alamo. (Well, I really do. They hate America). Having said all that. The defenders at the Alamo gave Houston and his 910 Texicans the time needed to get their act together and form the army needed to stop Santa Anna at San Jacinto. The actual battle lasted approximately 20 minutes. Everything else is irrelevant.

I have relatives that have lived in that part of Texas for the better part of 100 years. One of them was an amateur historian and studied the Alamo. She felt that the Mexicans lost more like 600-700 men. This is based upon local stories of how big the cemetery was and how many bodies were thrown into graves. Her other point was that no army could do a frontal assault on that type of fortification and only lose 300 men. She always said Crocket survived and faced Santa Ana and was then executed. Many Mexicans in the area thought it was wrong to execute the survivors because they fought with honor.

In any case the details are not that important to me. The fact that they drew a line and placed their lives on it - even though they thought help was on the way - is the important thing. They had ample opportunity to surrender and did not. The other point that many overlook is that many - mostly the Tennesseans came because they felt their way of life was being destroyed and they were just pissed and felt out of place. They just wanted a fight. Seems many feel that way today.

Remember the Alamo.

Remember Goliad.

And always remember the great victory at San Jacinto.
