The Individual Politicians Who Benefited From Stanford
So who are the individual politicians the US district court judge could claw back political donations from?
Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla), benefited the most, and now says he will give to charity his $45,900 in donations he received from Stanfords operations.
President Barack Obama was the third-ranking recipient among lawmakers, with $31,750 collected from Stanford company employees during his presidential bid, while $4,600 was from Stanford himself, says the says the Center for Responsive Politics. President Obamas campaign says it will give the $4,600 campaign donation to the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless, reports indicate.
The presidents rival, Arizona GOP Sen. John McCain, was the fifth highest recipient with $28,150. Sen. McCain announced he would donate the money he received from Stanford to charity.
Former Rep. Bob Ney (R-Ohio), who served prison time for his role in the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal, received $28,200 (this includes contributions to Neys candidate committee and leadership political action committee).
Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas), who reportedly flew on Stanfords jet, collected $20,100 from the company between the 2000 and 2006 election cycles.
Sen. Christopher Dodd (D-Conn) got $27,500 from Stanfords operations, says the Center for Responsive Politics. Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) got $17,000. Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev) received $8,500, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Tex) $7,300, and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton received $6,900.
So far, only Nelson, the President, and McCain are giving their donations to charity. None of the politicians so far have said they will give the money back to investors.

Good one.
Developing? Disgusting is more to the point. Anything less than 10-20 is unacceptable; unless he is implicating his democrat party partners.
I can’t comprehend a plea deal here... what can Madoff “give up” to warrant getting out of jail? Because he really has no incentive (personally) to plea to a lesser term — at his age, pretty much any non-joke sentence will be a “life” sentence.
The only thing that makes sense is that his family would get off, in exchange for not blowing off the lid on how complicit the regulators were in this whole mess...
Ping! Naughty kitten!
Did Kenneth Lay and Jeffrey Skilling get offered plea deals??? Skilling got sentenced to 24 years and 4 months in federal PYITA prison. I see no reason why Madoff should get off with less.
There were many managers of "feeder" hedge funds who shoveled billions to Madoff over the years, while at the same time earning hefty fees. They've all claimed that Madoff deceived them, and their accountants, but it's hard to believe thay were all that stupid. If they were complicit, and Madoff has proof, or testifies, or both..well..
He is SO being protected...he’s got stuff on people...this had better all come to light.
I suspect any deal will involve leaving his wife with something...but I think it will blow up in the Fed’s face..
That’s the only way we’ll be able to swallow a deal..if he brings down the corrupt system, then it will be worth it.
That would make sense... but the question would be if the prosecutors would have the guts to do it. As long as Madoff is just a single "bad egg", things may not be so bad, but if the general suspicion that the entire market (or at least a significant portion of it) is dirty winds up being proven true, the fallout in loss of confidence in the market will be huge.
Skilling was the fall guy. Andrew Fastow (the Chief Financial Officer) was actually the brains behind the machinations. He only got 6 years with a plea deal. Fastow’s wife got a little jail time too.
Some cashed out of Enron at the right time and avoided prosecution. They are now living happily with their former stripper wives in Hawaii on the beach. (You can’t make this stuff up).
It can’t get much worse, and remember, if Obama is indeed running “against” the rich..then they’ll be no pity for these folks..
Madoff will get to keep his penthouse, his freedom, and his money.
Why?
Because Fox News is reporting Hillary, Schumer and Corzine all got Madoff money, and we can’t let THAT get out, can we?

Madoff should spend the rest of his life behind bars without the possibility of parole! Lets make an example of these a holes!
