No one here questions that 0bama went to Pakistan. The question is on what passport he traveled, and whether there really was a travel ban on US citizens going to Pakistan in 1981. I've seen that statement, but no source authenticating that such a ban existed. If there was such a ban, he could not have gone on a US passport and would have to have used another (possibly Indonesian) passport. It also matters who banned travel - if Pakistan banned US citizens, he could have gone on another passport. If the US banned such travel, wouldn't he be in violation of US law?

However, if there wasn't a ban, he likely traveled on a US passport and then this point shouldn't be included in arguments about nationality and citizenship. I got burned on this one because I couldn't back it up. If it's true, we should all know a source to cite. If it's not true, we're giving others a wedge to paint us as wrong.

lurker,

I apologize.

I see the problem.

I wrote “How did Obama travel to Pakistan on a USA passport?”

Bad error.

US citizens could travel there in 1981.

I was actually trying to raise this issue:

Did Obama have a USA passport when he traveled in 1981?

I have read that legal requests have been made to confirm that Obama had a USA passport in 1981.

I have also read that Obama’s lawyers have blocked all those requests.

I've Googled all the best known lawsuits, but I can't find the link for this.

I'll get back to you when I dig it out.

Obviously, if Obama was traveling internationally in 1981 without a USA passport, that would raise some very interesting questions.
