The U.S. senator appointed by the disgraced ex-governor of Illinois seems to have weathered a storm of controversy.

Fellow Democrats are no longer demanding that Sen. Roland Burris resign. The new Illinois governor has stopped calling for a special election to replace him. And party leaders who control the Senate and Illinois state Legislature are reluctant to risk losing his seat to Republicans.

"He's not going to go anywhere. I'm convinced of that," said congressman Phil Hare, one of the first Illinois Democrats to call for Burris to step down...

They can’t find anybody in Chicago democrat machine politics that hasn’t been bribed or offered bribes so they’ll just let it ride.

Diogenes went to the Chicago Democratic party looking for an honest man. His lamp was stolen.

Even a faux updating with pics would be funny.

I never have heard the background behind the picture. I'm sure whitey was being discussed, though.

Did it ever occur to anybody that he knows where the bodies are buried? The ILLinois mafia/politicians honor the code of silence.

Everyone refers to corrupt Chicago politics- they are all connected to each other-all the way to the boy in the white house. There are no stool pigeons.

Of course Burris gets what he wants. He knows too much.

They were worried that Burris would lose them credibility. It just doesn’t seem to matter, so they don’t mind either. It’s all about polls and public perception. If people had gotten out and protested and kept up a phone and letter campaign, he’d be on his way out. Apathy has consequences.

Burris now completely beholden to Reid - slave and slavemaster. He is their shoeshine boy, bringing the coffee and doughnuts for the morning caucus, etc. He is now officially in lockstep with them. They want to keep him around.

The whole issue that had Dingy Harry standing in the Senate Chamber doorway was that Burris would never win election in 2010. The dems wanted Blago to appoint someone more viable and Blago nose-thumbed them.

I guess Reid & Co. realize it’s just not worth the trouble and bad blood with the black community, have passed through the various stages, and have now resigned themselves to that seat being wide open come 2010.
