Does anyone here recall Nickelodeon presenting a cartoon homage to President George W. Bush? No? Of course not. "Wrong" politics. However, if you think your very young children are safe from being exposed to subtle political brainwashing while watching Nick Jr., which presents Nickelodeon cartoons for children 5 and under, you would be wrong. Check out this poetic cartoon homage to Barack Obama currently running on Nick Jr.. Here is what your young ones will hear:
Nickelodeon celebrates President Barack Obama and some of his favorite things.
Barack Obama is the first African-American to be President. That is what's called a historic event.
Leading a country is no easy task. So what does he do to relax you may ask?

Sponge Bob had a pretty funnie episode about Communist China. My nephew is NUts about Sponge Bob. He has all sorts of Sponge Bob posters and knick knacks. Plus he makes really good drawings of the Sponge Bob characters.
“All hail the Messiah, Obama, Obama...”
My two sons watch “Signing Time” over and over. They both love it. It’s fabulous! It teaches young kids sign language and I believe it has also taught my oldest to sight read. My oldest has some language delays and “Signing Time” has really helped him communicate.
My son used to watch Noggin, which is produced by Nick. They even started in with the Obama crap. They had also been running a lot of green and global warming propaganda. He’s now watching the Disney channel shows for little kids. I think the shows are better and I haven’t seen any politcal nonsense. Every now and then they will run something earthy but it’s not nearly as bad as Nick.
I think so.
“Ponyo by the Sea” will be dubbed this year as well. Normally I don’t care for the dubs (why do the Americans always give girls high squeaky voices, i.e. Chihiro?) but they have picked Miley Cyrus’ little sister to be Ponyo and the youngest Jonas Brother to be Sosuke. My girls are geeked beyond measure about it.
The opening ocean sequence is totally hand drawn and unbelievably beautiful. I hope they release it to theaters like they did “Spirited Away” and “Howl’s Moving Castle”! I want to see it on a big screen.
My girls love Pucca. It is the oddest and silliest of their shows.
“God” is yiddish and floats on a cloud. There is even Santa in there for some reason.
It makes me laugh.
You can keep Lazy Town. Ugh.
I think I’ve got all of his dubbed films on DVD, including “Castle of Cagliostro,” although one of my grandchildren seems to have made off with that, as it’s not on my shelf at the moment.
I also have quite a few samurai movies for my own entertainment, including the Babycart series, and The Samurai trilogy.
Anyway, our youngest grandchildren, especially the four-year-old, love watching Totoro and The Cat Returns.
Do they watch it in English or Japanese?
I make my girls watch the original Japanese for all but “The Cat Returns” (because we LOVE Cary Elwes),”Whisper of the Heart” (Cary, Brittany Snow and Ashley Tisdale are great) “Totoro” (original Fox dub only) and Howl (got to have Christian Bale).
I found that it made them practice reading! My oldest daughter thinks she is Nausicaa. She talks to bugs.
We run around singing the end title song of “The Cat Returns”. If anyone who was really Japanese heard us, they would shake their heads, I’m sure!
I’ve also got “Grave of the Fireflies,” but I keep it on a top shelf, because I think it’s just too sad for kids to watch. I’ve only seen it once myself; not sure if I can watch it again. But it’s beautifully done.
Is it really????
I didn’t know that, but it makes me laugh like a nut.
My girls have watched the beginning of GotF, just because I tried to tell them about the animation. How they used muted colors. They couldn’t get it so I ran the beginning and when they move to the cave.
One day they’ll watch it, but I even break down in tears when Setsuko dies. It will be a while. I still can’t believe that GotF was released as a double feature with Totoro. Way to traumatize kids!
LazyTown creeps me out. Maybe it’s just me.
We’ve watched Ponyo on the internet without subtitles. I have to check if it’s out on DVD yet. I have no problem with paying for a region free copy if it has English subs.
But that’s one I will probably love in English! So we’ll buy the Disney dub as well.
As for Lazy Town, may I ask what it is about the show that "creeps you out"? There's no sex, no violence, no bad language, no politics, and no product placement. Is it the pink hair? Sorry if I'm curious -- being the father of a toddler, I watch that show a lot...
Actually, it’s not a download, it’s streaming but I get your point. I rationalize it in that I will buy both copies of the DVD (Japanese because I can’t wait and Disney for my daughter’s DVD player), Blu-ray from Disney and see it in the theater. If I was not going to do that, I wouldn’t watch it because I believe in giving the cash to the people who deserve it. Honestly, I did the same with Hairspray. Saw it twice in the theater, bought 2 different versions of the DVD, the Blu-Ray, the soundtrack and our entire Christmas was around the movie. They Cashed out on me!
If Disney released the dub in some reasonable amount of time, it would be on it’s way.
It’s the plastic looking faces and hair that creep me out on Lazy Town. I shivered at Polar Express too. There is just something about it. You’re right, the content is great, but the look is something I can’t watch.
I’ll have look up Beer-chan!
