Obama surprises daughters with new swing set (Obama destroyed trees for his kid's pleasure)

First daughters Malia and Sasha Obama got a big surprise after school Wednesday: a brand-new swing set.

They squealed with delight upon seeing it, a spokeswoman for the first lady said.

President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, went to work while the girls were at school, having the set installed on the south grounds of the White House within sight of the Oval Office, where their father spends plenty of time.

Late last year as the couple planned the family's move to Washington, they had discussed with the chief usher at the White House ways to make the historic residence feel more like home for their girls, said Katie McCormick Lelyveld, a spokeswoman for Michelle Obama.

Malia and Sasha, ages 10 and 7, had never lived anywhere but Chicago.

"Many first families have made these sorts of changes to make the White House feel like home," McCormick Lelyveld said. "This one is like their little mark."

The 100 percent cedar and North American Redwood structure has four swings, including a tire swing, a slide, a fort, a climbing wall and climbing ropes. There's also a picnic table with brass plates etched with the names of all 44 presidents, she said.

"Yes, we absolutely love the house ... it is just the right size and has all of the amenities that we've been looking for, but that swingset in the backyard really breaks the whole deal because we don't have any children or grandchildren ... and, if we did, we wouldn't let them play anyway!

I'm not attacking you personally, I understand that you are only passing on what you know. But what I know is that the neighborhoods of which you speak don't sound like someplace to live, they sound like a place to merely exist.

To each his own. As far as the Obama girls go ... I hope they have a blast playing on their new set. It looks like alot of fun.

The Obamas paid for the swing set, which was made and installed by Rainbow Play Systems of Brookings, S.D. The company’s Web site says it’s the most trusted brand name in wooden swing sets.

Just wow. And who pays the Obammys? George Soros and the rest of us? Most parents these days aren't laying out this kind of cash for a frekin swing set. (It's much more than that if you watched FOX at all today.) Why these two little brats are entitled to this when their father is pilfering everybody's pocket, maybe you can tell me. He's living rent free, security free, Air Force One free. Any of us could afford a ***swing set*** if we'd just won the lottery. We might even throw in a puppy too.

My husband is a pastor. I would feel really bad if every time I got a new dress someone told me that they “really” paid for it because they gave to the church and the church paid his salary.
The salary and fringe benefit of the presidency were in place a long time before Obama got there and they have always been paid for by the tax payer. I dont begrudge him that just because I dont like him and I certainly dont begrudge his daughters a swing set.

Sorry but this is a lame comment. My kids had a swing set. My grandkids had a swing set. But when we bought those swing sets we weren't saying "all you folks out there need to do without and pony up a whole lot more from yet paychecks!" We actually bought those swingsets with disposable income. What's Obammy doing with his disposable income? $100 per ounce steak from Japan and hiring Earth Wind and Fire over for the weekend.

My comment isn't lame just because you can't resist the urge to want to micro-manage every thing Obama does. The only thing I was commenting to was the fact that you think YOU paid for the swingset because you pay taxes and taxes paid his salary. That is an exact analogy of my new dress comment. I think Obama’s economic policy is horrible for this country. That is one of the many reasons I voted against him. That has nothing to do with how he spends his salary. His salary is going to be paid for by the American people whether he is a conservative or liberal. If you want to have an opinion about how he spends taxpayer money then go right ahead but it is NONE of your business how he spends his salary (note: once the government pays his salary, it is no longer the taxpayers money). Again with the church analogy, if I want to spend our salary on a new dress it is no one’s business. If I want to spend the church's money indiscriminately then the tithe payer should have a say.
