DMV says it won't pull driver's licenses of medical pot users
The Orange County Register (CA) ^ | March 04, 2009 | By SERENA MARIA DANIELS

Medical marijuana users can exhale a sigh of relief that their driver's licenses will not be revoked or suspended if they have a doctor's permission to use cannabis. [snip]

The Oakland-based organization's chief counsel, Joe Elford, said he filed a lawsuit against the DMV on behalf of Rose Johnson, 53, of Atwater, in November, claiming her license was taken away based solely on the fact that she uses marijuana to treat back problems, stemming from an auto crash. [snip]

Johnson's driving privileges have since been restored.

They tend to drive (much) slower and more cautiously anyway.

Good. It isn’t like California doesn’t have real crime or real criminals with which it can deal.

Stoners want the government to guarantee them the privilege of using the public roads regardless of the risks they pose to others. Parasitic free lunchers.

I'd rather have to deal with a potsmoker, or even a drunk driver, than some idiot TEXTING on their cell phone.

No we don't & we're not. Besides, this relates only to those who are licensed by the state of CA for the medical use of marijuana. There is no excuse for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of ANYTHING, legal or not.

The DMV policy is, and has been, that the department treats medical marijuana exactly the same as any other prescription drug, and that we do not automatically revoke the licenses of those who have a prescription for medical marijuana."

It make sense. Unless they want to revoke everyone's license that has a prescription for painkillers, cold medicines, or drugs like valium.

Oh wait, I forgot pot = hippie = no bath = 60s reject = stoners = dopers = loserdopians ....

In related news, DMV is not pulling the licenses of people who buy beer, wine, or liquor.

Which is a medical scam. Stoners go to select list of quacks complaining of vague "pain" and walk out with a "recommendation" as they head to a dope den "clinic" for a bag of dope.

That may happen in a few cases, but the vast majority of those who use it are doing it responsibly. What about them? Sure, get rid of the abuse of the law; fine or arrest those who take advantage of it, just like you would welfare cheats, those who refuse to pay child support, etc.

Tell ya what: speaking of child support, let's use your line of thinking on that subject....how about if we just make divorce illegal due to men not paying child support? Yeah, that would end the prob right there!

I deny your assertion and call your bluff. Source, please.

Do you have proof that most of the folks using medical marijuana are doing so improperly? Remain in denial all you wish.

You still haven’t answered my question about those who use the program responsibly (remember that I asked you “What about them?”)...that is, if you believe that it can be done in the 1st place.

Strawman. Never said the majority did.

But since your bluff was called and you punked out, let's talk about the excuses used to get "medical" marijuana recommendations in California.

"Frank Lucido, a Berkeley family practitioner who is Raich's doctor, said that so far, the Court ruling appears to have had little effect on his patients who use medical marijuana. About 30 percent of Lucido's practice consists of evaluating patients who want a recommendation for the drug. He said in an interview that he will not issue such a recommendation unless a patient has a primary care physician and has a condition serious enough to require follow-up at least annually. About 80 percent of his patients who use medical cannabis have chronic pain; a smaller number take the drug for muscle spasms, mood disorders, migraine, AIDS, or cancer."

The New England Journal of Medicine

80% use "pain" an an excuse to get their dope.

Now, let's return to your false and still unsupported contention that "but the vast majority of those who use it are doing it responsibly..."

I'll call your bluff a second time. Show 'em or fold 'em.

So in other words, you DON’T have proof, do you? I have no prob w/ what Dr. Lucido said, good for him!

Now for the THIRD time: answer my question! What about those that are responsible & have been helped my marijuana? Do you think the feds or state officials should raid their homes, confiscate their property, take their kids, etc?

So in other words, you DON’T have proof, do you?

Proof of what? It is YOUR false assertion that "...the vast majority of those who use it are doing it responsibly..." that is at issue.

Do you have a source? Or did you invent the lie?

"What has Prop 215 brought California: high school seniors obtaining marijuana ID cards as a “rite of passage;” investigative news reporting showing young healthy adults obtaining so-called medical marijuana for made-up symptoms like itchy skin, hair loss and feet pain from wearing high heels; more pot shops in Los Angeles than Starbucks; perfectly healthy adults obtaining pot for no other reason than to get high."

OK, you're right in that I assumed that most of those who use medical marijuana do so responsibly--just like I assume those who drive do the same, or use guns, or drink alcohol, etc. I'm not gonna just throw out the baby w/ the bath water like you do simply 'cuz I don't like something.

Why do you refuse to answer my question? This is the FOURTH time I've brought it up & you still keep punting it away. It's a very simple one, something that I guess you don't have the balls to discuss.

Tell ya what...it’s getting late here in the central time zone so I’m gonna crash. Simmer on my question about what to do w/ those that use medical MJ responsibly & those who have benefited from it if you can handle it. God luck & good speed!
