Boehner: White House trying to distract with Limbaugh By Molly K. Hooper Posted: 03/04/09 02:14 PM [ET] White House efforts to highlight Rush Limbaugh as the face of the Republican Party are an attempt to divert attention from the administration’s massive budget proposal, GOP House leaders said Wednesday.

They said Americans are more concerned about the economy and President Obama’s budget than Limbaugh, under White House fire for saying he hoped Obama would fail because of his policies.

“This is nothing more than a distraction created by the administration to take people’s attention away from the fact that they’re going to raise taxes and grow the size of government,” House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) said Wednesday following a weekly GOP policy meeting.

The attention given to Limbaugh, who was mentioned again Wednesday at the White House briefing, is making it more difficult for Republicans on Capitol Hill to get out their own message.

After Wednesday’s policy briefing, Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) attempted to direct attention back to the topic of Republican concern on Capitol Hill: the president’s budget.

“It’s not about Rush Limbaugh, it is not about Rahm Emanuel, it’s not about individuals right now — this is about real impact on families across this country,” Cantor said.

No, Boehner.

You MUST say that Rush has challenged Obama to a public debate.

You must say it again and again and again. Every Republican must bring it up.

Make a big deal of the debates. Ask when Obama is going to show up.

Given his pattern of catastrophic incompetence I would think Boehner would be happy about that...

Obama’s already set the bar so low with his “unrecoverable recession” doom and gloom rhetoric that you’d think he’d welcome Rush’s wishes for failure.

Obama wants the economy (ie, free market capitalism) to fail. He should be thanking Rush.

If the Republican leadership were as outspoken and principled as Rush they’d be getting attention too. Instead they are just bystanders with their mouths gaping.

Finally, the pubbies seem to have gotten on message regarding Limbaugh: bringing him up is a distraction.

They need to continue repeating this line whenver Bambi mentions Rush. Distraction, distraction, distraction. That's the matra.

Good to see they finally figured it out. Too bad it took them so long...

Yes, that's exactly the right strategy if you want to make the GOP look like idiots and turn off moderates.

Do you ever think before you post?

The Dems would be too smart to take the bait. They'd just say the Pubbies were distracting the American public from the real issues.

Unfortuantely, the pubbies, up until now, have been too dumb to say the same thing when the Dems bring up Rush.

Why does it have to be either/or? Boehner, Canter.l These jerks just keep driving deeper and deeper into the hole. It’s about Rush because Rush has been one of the few people who has stood up to Obama’s insane policies and told it like it is.

He’s on your side, you jerks! You are the guys who keep letting yourselves be diverted from the point. You just keep letting the Democrats call the game.

Wake up!

Of course Obama and crew are trying to distract the populace with Rush. They’ve taken a moderately bad recession and completely tanked the economy; every other person in the administration has tax or other legal problems; Obama himself may be an illegal President; they’re trying to re-shape America into a socialist nightmare... Naturally they need a diversion. When blaming former President Bush gets old (IMHO it already is very, very old) they’ll move on to blaming Republican’s in general as “obstructionist.” When it comes to their socialist dreams for America, you better believe we’re obstructionist!

Who is distracting who? I think Limbaugh is distracting the White House — not the other way around.

Boehner, put it in Nixonian terms - they’re running an enemies list operation out of the West Wing. Start using Halderman as Rahm’s middle name. In retrospect, it should be no surprise that the puppetmasters are using 60’s tactics.

Nevadan:

Curiosity, I think you’ve killed your troll cat. Trying to be “moderate” or to please the moderates is what lost the Republicans the last two elections. You can’t get much more moderate than McCain.
