FWIW, Sun Tzu wasn't a politician -- you'd best be careful when trying to apply his ideas in that realm. Alinsky's approach is probably more effective when one doesn't have the option of killing those who get in one's way.
You don't need to kill your enemy in order to destroy them...Decrediting is just as effective. See "Rules for Radicals" No. 12...
