Barack Obama last week set forth the most ambitious reform agenda of any president since Lyndon Johnson, and a large majority of Americans have rallied behind him. Yet, as the economy continues its downward plunge, the question arises: in trying to do so many big things at once, is he putting economic hopes at growing risk?
The arguments in favor of his current approach what might be called a big bang are powerful both substantively and politically. With health care costs exploding they will average $8,160 per person this year and are estimated to reach $13,100 by 2018 it is clear that reform of health care is a key to long-term economic strength. Similarly, the embrace of a low-carbon, green economy should be the source of many new jobs and will also protect the planet. In both cases, the earlier reforms come, the better.
Politically, the President is probably at the zenith of his power.

Obama is a Communist. That will explain all his actions and motives...Simple.
Hank Jr. would call it an “Attitude Adjustment.”
Obama doesn’t need a course correction. The rudder and engine need to be disabled and quick.
>>and a large majority of Americans have rallied behind him.<<
No. A large majority of deadbeats and losers seeking to suckle at the government teat rally behind him.
The majority of hard-working Patriots - including smart businessmen and investors - know communism when they see it, and are royally pissed off.
Just as when Stalin had all the peasants in the Ukraine killed when they opposed rapid collectivization.
Would have worked too, except for the damn famine!
Obama is even scaring liberals now.
The real piece of news here is that this article was written by none other than David Rodham Gergen!
Wow. 0bama must REALLY be going overboard for Gergen to say such things.
I simply can’t beleive there are “educated” and “functional” “adults” spewing this nonsense on the public airwaves....
Course correction?
A 180 degree course correction sounds good to me.
Funny the lefties promote this stuff until it hits them in the pocket and 410K and stocks, then they squeal like the pigs they are.
None that I know....I walk among zombies.
a trip to the insane asylum is needed
He is a smarmy liberal sycophant left over from the clinton years.
When I hear him speak it's like listening to Pelosi, Frank, Schumer and Reid. All for show and pushing the Alinsky/Soros/Marxist/Ayres agenda
Gergen wants all the socialism....just slowed down.
“Obama doesnt need a course correction. The rudder and engine need to be disabled and quick.”
More like rudder amidships, all back emergency.....
Not pissed off enough yet and I have my doubts they will be before it is too late.
Conservatives count on the process and the rule-of-law. They play fair and by the rules and never bend them. They stay calm, cool and collected. It is just too undignified to go kick somebody’s ass.
One should not need to get hit by a bullet to know he is being shot at and do something to stop it.
Not only are we being shot at we have been hit, many times.
United we stand and divided we fall. Without solidarity they will pick us off one at a time.
