BAGHDAD A Department of Army civilian serving in Iraq and a U.S. humanitarian organization donated medical supplies to the Baghdad Police Colleges renovated medical and dental clinic here Feb. 25. The clinic serves thousands of BPC students every year.
This was a wonderful donation, providing much-needed supplies for our clinic, said Iraqi Dr. Mustafa, clinic director at Baghdad Police College. These supplies will help us throughout the year in serving our patients needs. It is deeply appreciated.
The medical supplies, valued at approximately $2,500, included stethoscopes, syringes, sponges, gloves, bandages and liters of intravenous fluids.
Multi-National Security Transition Command - Iraq contractor Eric Egland, a J-3 research and analysis cell team leader, coordinated the shipment of medical supplies. Egland, also a U.S. Air Force Reserve major, founded the humanitarian organization Troops Need You in 2007. Over 10,000 Americans have contributed various supplies to troops for distribution throughout Iraq and Afghanistan. He said the philosophy of the all-volunteer group is based on the belief that Americans can help U.S. troops succeed by delivering supplies that can strengthen relationships with Iraqis.
Egland said the shipment of medical supplies to Baghdad Police College was organized by Steve Doll of Redding, Calif. In addition to volunteering with Troops Need You, Doll is a licensed physicians assistant who conducts post-deployment medical evaluations for returning soldiers. The cost of the shipment was underwritten by the Shasta Orthopedic Clinic, also in Redding.
Uncle Sam equips our troops to engage in combat and the Troops Need You organization empowers average Americans to equip them to engage communities, added Egland.
He said these donations make a significant impact. We have received school and medical supplies, water purification systems and sports league equipment. These supplies enable the troops to improve the lives of local citizens and undermine support for insurgents.
MNSTC-Is efforts in supporting its Government of Iraq partners represents a vital step towards ensuring Iraqs self-sufficiency for the future.

Maj. Eric Egland used to work for Move America Forward and I worked with him on several occasions.
He attended the GOE rally in Washington, DC a few years ago and spoke at the event.
Back In Iraq Major Eric Egland Fights Earmark Battle Here at Home
Major Eric Egland, a counter-terrorism consultant to the Department of Defense, is back in Iraq.

Eric is also the founder of
Troops Need You an organization whose mission it is to deliver the resources the troops need to win over the local people in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Troops Need You "Cards for Troops" program has been a stunning success this year.
Major Egland saw first hand in Iraq and Afghanistan that the troops are well equipped to engage in combat, but need the American people to equip them to engage communities. Soldiers and Marines have proven that providing tailored responses to local needs--whether medical supplies, water filtration systems or enough sports equipment to start a soccer league--builds trust and makes the people more willing to stand up, so our troops can stand down and come home--victorious.
Besides his important work in Iraq, Eric is focusing on national security reforms, including making sure wartime earmark abusers face consequences. Eric Egland is launching an assault on backroom contracting deals during wartime.
GovExec has more on Eric's efforts.
Mitchell Wade, the former defense contractor who
pleaded guilty to paying $1.8 million in bribes to imprisoned former Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham (R-Calif.) will be sentenced on December 15th. Egland is requesting Wade be given maximum sentence because of the lethal consequences of his failures in the Counter-IED Targeting Program. He wrote about that
HERE.
A good man, a family man, and a Patriot.
