White House cancels Brown press conference in Rose Garden (0 Punks the PM)
Times Online ^ | 3/3/2009 | Philippe Naughton

Gordon Brown's attempts to portray himself as a global leader in a time of crisis have been dealt a blow by White House planners - and Washington's worst snowstorm in years.

Downing Street officials discovered last night that Prime Minister would not, as had been widely reported, hold a joint press conference with President Obama after their talks at the White House today.

Instead, the White House press office announced what it called a "pool spray" - a few shouted questions from selected agency reporters as the two men sat down for talks and photographers clicked away.

After representations from British diplomats, it was agreed to hold open it up more widely and allow a total of four questions - two from each side - at a "press availability" in the Oval Office after the talks.

British officials, denying any deliberate snub, said that a slightly more formal event planned in the Rose Garden after the meeting had been cancelled because the grounds of the White House are blanketed in snow.

After a working lunch with Mr Brown, Mr Obama will then head off to make a speech at the Department of the Interior before meeting a delegation at the Boy Scouts of America, the White House said. If Mr Brown wanted to hold a press conference, he would have to do so across town at the British Embassy

The leader of the free world is bothered by a little snow? Didn’t Obama make a snarky comment about DC being paralyzed by snowflakes when he was on the campaign trail?

What a tool.

It’s going to be a long four years.

It was too cold. He keeps the temp jacked up in the WH for his comfort. With manners like this I wonder how long this “cozy” relationship will last.

Brown's a leftie and Zero can't even get along with him? Snubbed him so he could go to Interior and do more damage to our energy supply? This guy's not ready for prime time.

OMG - How embarassing for the U.S.! Obama is a clueless nitwit. I hope the British will understand that OB does not understand diplomatic protocol and doesn’t hold it against us. My fear is that this is just the beginning of pissing off ALL of our friends, and buddying up to the enemy by OB.

His presidency is a disaster, and he has a tin ear to hearing it.

Oh, a foot or so of global cooling is suddenly inserted as a reason?

allow a total of four questions - two from each side

That's what they did for his press conference in Canada.

4 questions.

I guess that's his limit without a teleprompter.

“Now he intends to piss off our friends....”

During his foray to Europe Obama appeared at a German war memorial, not English one.

ON the other hand, Brown might have been grovelling for more bailout money.

I’m sure the questions are *prepared* and *approved* to give ‘o’ time to practice his answers.

He has NO idea about protocol or gracious behavior.

White House press office announced what it called a "pool spray"

Sounds pretty kinky. I'm sure the journalists loved it. A messiah spray.

"His presidency is a disaster, and he has a tin ear to hearing it."

Obama is not worried. He knows the Drive-By-Media is covering for him. His lapdog media friends will will squash any bad news and attempt to keep the public perpetually in the dark about reality of America's situation.

The trouble is reality has a tendency to erode illusions like hurricanes erode beaches. When the hurricane stikes even Obama's lapdog media friends won't be able to hide the facts from the public. The public reaction may get very ugly indeed.

Or to give his handlers time to figure out what they want him to say.

I swear, sometimes I can almost see the strings behind him.

So, who does this marionette belong to?

I don’t know about the campaign trail but he made a snarky comment about the ice storm that killed 36 people, you know the storm he ignored except to rag people about shutting down schools “because of a little ice”.
