Its not just the abortion issue.

He proposed massive foreign aid to Africa for Aids prevention and treatment. He gave his condolences to the “Palestinian people” for the death of the Arab Hitler Yasser Arafat ysh’’v, whom he called a “great leader”. He was soft on illegal immigration, and supported a guest worker program.

This came up in the 08 campaign, and these were the reasons I was opposed to his candidacy.

I’m sure has a reason.

And I’m sure none of us would think his reason is justifiable.

But, it’s not reason enough, by any wild stretch, to throw him out of the party.

Like an alcoholic there is no better time for a party to find its soul than when it is hitting bottom. The Republican Party is virtually impotent for the moment. It would not be entirely impotent if it' could manage to impose discipline on two senators from Maine and one from Pennsylvania, but it cannot.

Since it cannot restrain the senators (and probably at least another three) the Republican Party will remain impotent until it can find a way to discipline them, or replace them, or supplement them with other senators who will be loyal. This is a time when the price of discipline comes cheap because we have so very little to lose and only the world to gain.

When the party is on the cusp of achieving power and a few votes here and there make the difference, it becomes extremely costly and very difficult to impose rigorous discipline. Now is the time to do it if it is ever going to be done. It is not done, the Republican Party will continue to disintegrate and go the way of the Whigs.

There are other sanctions short of banishment.

First of all, Brownback says he is “Catholic.” One cannot be a true Catholic and consent in any way, shape, or form with abortion or the abortion industry. Sebelius also says she is “Catholic” but is a staunch supporter of Tiller the Killer, one of the most notorious practioners of abortion, conveniently located in Kansas. It doesn’t matter what he has or hasn’t done in the past, for Brownback to endorse her at this point in time says that he approves the fact that she will be in a position to push her abortion agenda nationwide. I expect she will be at the forefront of the FOCA legislation (or pieces of it). The bottom line is that she pushes and supports abortion and he supports her. By their actions, these two people are causing a scandal in the Church, and since I am a Catholic, I most certainly can say that he is a FAKE because he IS.

Good grief. No damned wonder the republicans can’t win a freakin’ election. I hope you’re proud of your ideological purity...it’s going to get lonely for you if you keep making the good the enemy of the perfect, you’ll need the solace of your own perfection in your lonliness. I’m also sorry that a US Senator with a 100 freakin’ percent pro life voting record doesn’t meet your standards of pro-life purity.

“Is it too much to expect politicians to make decisions based on bedrock principle rather than vapourous expedience and craven “collegiality”.”

Yes.

Why do people keep on believing politicians? Only a handful even have any real principles, and they are castigated for it. (Ron Paul).

As Mencken said, “These men (in government), in point of fact, are seldom if ever moved by anything rationally describable as public spirit; there is actually no more public spirit among them than among so many burglars or street-walkers.”

I’m sick and tired of Republicans compromising their beliefs and if they don’t win another election, I won’t really care. I also don’t care how many times Brownback has voted pro-life, he has now endorsed a known advocate of baby butchery. I am not making the “good” the enemy of the “perfect.” I am insisting that people be consistent in their beliefs and not just when they think their voting record will be looked at. I really don’t think that’s too much to ask.

Brownback has a very strong pro-life reputation. Or at least he did before he used it to endorse a virulent pro-abortionist.

After all, anyone O appoints to the post will be just as pro-death as she. How will she justify the coming epidemic of euthanasia and infanticide?

You are 100% right, Judy. Brownback is just another backstabbing creep. The sheep truly are being separated from the goats these days.

Good grief. No damned wonder the republicans can’t win a freakin’ election.

Do you really think you win elections by spitting on your core supporters and pandering to your enemy?
