White House Budget Director Peter Orszag on Tuesday defended President Barack Obama's $3.6 trillion federal budget and its proposal to raise taxes on more affluent Americans.
"We have lived through an era of irresponsibility," Orszag told the House Budget Committee. "Looking forward, we must change course."
Lawmakers in both parties have questioned Obama's call to reduce high-income earners' tax deductions for the interest on their house payments and for charitable contributions. Also drawing fire is his proposal to start taxing industries on their greenhouse gas pollution a move sure to raise consumers' electric rates.
Obama's budget plan drew fire from a senior Republican, who is calling it the biggest expansion of government since President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal. Wisconsin Republican Paul Ryan told Orszag that administration claims of deficit-cutting are mostly bogus since the deficit would fall anyway as the war in Iraq winds down.

“We have lived through an era of irresponsibility,”
Spoken like a true bureaucratic hypocrite.
They are setting themselves up for a landslide defeat at some point in the future. Even the most ignorant in economics understand their own personal economy
So what would you expect Obama’s budget chief to do, of course he defends Obama’s budget, He probably helped write it.
Nothing like Spend and tax.
and what would he like this era to be called....oh by the way market is down about 60...
so Obama is going to punish the good with the bad and the poor with the rich
Private sector is too irresponsible with their own money, thats why we need to take it away from them, so that government can do it
Yep. And when the Dems in Congress realize it, they are gonna just ship.
BOH’s supporters are delusional if they think that the proposed tax bomb will not impact them. Perhaps only the rich will be taxed directly. The impact of this taxation will ripple throughout the economy. The rich will work less, invest less, spend less, and produce less. Of course, then the rats will find someone else to blame for the impact of their war on capitalism.
Obombo opened his mouth again....
We have lived through an era of irresponsibility...
Interesting. I thought sitting on your ass all day drinking 40s and smoking blunts was irresponsible. I suppose all those people will be getting jobs now and becoming responsible.
An era of soaking one socio-economic group to "bail out" the irresponsible percentage of every socio-economic group. But that just doesn's sound quite as catchy, does it? How about the era of stirring up class-based penis envy for political gain?
I live in FL, haven't used the heat or AC in sevearl months and my electric bill is over $300 per month. Only 3 people living in my house, including me. I'm trying to figure out how I can either lie about some tax I pay or how I can get a bailout. Our local politicians just allowed the power company here in central FL to raise the rates 25%!

Who in this administration is going to take the blame when the producers in this country just sit down for a number of months or years???
This last election was the producers vs the looters.
There are more looters who voted than producers. Hence- NObama gets the nod.
There is a growing feeling of just shutting down—scaling back so far that only you and your family are working in your company—whatever. NObama cannot tax your millions if you are not making millions.

Please clarify how large your house is- sq ft will do-—how many oepole live there— is the home ‘all electrtic’— how many KWH are you being billed for—is it by the month—or every 2 months— calculate what the cost per KWH is.
I pay about 16 cents a Kwh. My last bill was $74.40, and I have had the heat on this winter. I also pump all my own water from my own well.
If you are unable to figure how to find the cost per KWH- Private message me and I will help you.
OK—you say 3 people and for one month-
Is your house all electric? If so- electric hear is pretty expensive. Hair dryers—toasters— irons— really draw alot. Especially on top of electric heat.
