DIY car repair and squeezing every mile out of the old clunker will do that for a parts store.

No one can buy a new car so the old car is getting face lift.

Ha! The “face” on my old truck is way beyond lifting!

She’s to the point where she needs organ transplants.

(and I get some of ‘em at Auto Zone!)

Hey, I spent the weekend fixing rotted brake lines outside in the driveway. 40 inches of line, some fittings, and a pint of fluid ran about nine bucks. Even though it was fifteen degrees out there, how could I refuse such inexpensive success?

If it runs and gets you to point A from B...It’s beautiful!

I wish I had your skills..and tools...right about now.

I live in a nice townhouse community about seven miles from the Pentagon...condo regs kind of frown on people working on their cars in the community parking lot....

Doesn’t surprise me. My auto repair shop owner said business is booming. My problem is that with my 1995 Escort, all the parts aren’t available “new” and we’re having to scrounge around for good used parts. It’s a gamble, but one I’m willing to take for 34-39 miles per gallon and no new-car payment.

I worked for Autozone as a part-timer from '93-'94, while I was stationed at Davis-Monthan in Tucson. The folks I worked with were great, and management really came across as a good bunch of folks.

Of course, it helped that our store was setting sales records from the get-go.

Most everyone I worked with was a car nut, not someone just collecting a paycheck.

I pick them yet today, even though some other parts stores are closer.

I have a 91 BMW (which I dearly love) and I have to scrounge or do without. And some repairs are just too darn expensive to justify and, for that reason, I only drive it around town.

Yep I'll be going there to pick some bondo for the rust on the car door as soon as it warms up a bit. Usually when rust started on a 8 year old car it was time to trade it in. But the old Honda's engine is running, gets 24 mpg and I'm not buying anything new until i figure out which companies come out the other end of this mess and which ones don't. Oh and its a made in Ohio Honda if anyone cares.

No skills, minimal tools. Just the need to not spend a couple of hundred I didn't have. A clear contrast between private and community property in terms of freedom, though. The freedom to do the work without being fined is all you really need.

H-e-l-l-o! Anyone home?
Of course Auto Parts stores and Repair Shops will prosper now.

If you can't afford, or get a loan, to buy a new car - YOU FIX YOUR 'OLD' ONE, ya dummy's!

The only set back to the above is that the average 20 and 30 somethings of today doesn't know an Open End Wrench from Long Nose Pliers as mommy wouldn't let them get their hands dirty growing up. BUT -- they can score 12,000 on Guitar Hero. /s

Shades of Cuba!!! Thanks to the Marxist/socialist takeover of our once great country; twenty years from now we’ll still be riding around in the same cars....with help from Auto Zone.
