he Obama White House has begun advancing an aggressive political strategy: convincing the country that the real power behind the Republican Party is not the GOP leaders in Congress or at the Republican National Committee, but rather provocative radio talk show king Rush Limbaugh.
President Barack Obama, top presidential aides and outside Democratic allies have been pushing the message in unison.
*snip*
With the White House working to make Limbaugh the face of the GOP, it is getting some outside assistance.
A tax-exempt group that supports progressive causes Americans United for Changeis helping finance a television ad that claims GOP leaders are beholden to the radio host. The ad closes with Limbaugh saying of Obama, "I want him to fail."
*snip*
Brad Woodhouse, president of Americans United for Change, said the group has discussed the ad campaign with the Democratic National Committee. Woodhouse is joining the DNC next week as its communications director.
Asked whether the White House was notified about the ad, Woodhouse said: "They certainly are awareI'm sure they're aware of what we're doing."

I have been saying that if you leave a democrat to his own devices they invariably self destruct. Obama is in the process now.
Problem is he may take a lot of unsuspecting people with him.
The big question is just how much damage he can do between now and 2010. It's almost a certainty that he will lose his super majority by then.
Just how bad things will be by then no one knows.
Palin has plenty of appeal for not only to women but men across both sides of the aisle. Why do you think the rats have expended such time and effort to try and destroy her!
In her own way she is a female Limbaugh and hopefully will be the nominee.
This is great. Thanks for posting Alinsky’s rules. Every time anyone from the left attempts to use them on anyone from the right, the response should be simply to quote the rules back to them, whether it be in news articles, discussion forums, tv shows etc. , quote the “rules” in any website comment forum, or quote them when writing to a reporter who resorts to them in a “news”article until everyone recognizes what is going on.
I would bet more than half of those who consider themselves liberals have no idea about Alinsky and that what Obama and the Clintons do and did directly follow his teachings.
I do hope that Governor Palin has a copy of the book and learns everything in it from cover to cover so she’ll know what’s coming her way before it gets there.
1. Reagan lost the first time he ran. He didn't take that as a sign that he wasn't it.
2. When Palin ran, it was as second-fiddle. If she ran her own campaign for the top spot, it would be a different message from a different person. We'd just have to wait and see how she does in a primary as her own person.
3. Because Palin was muzzled to some extent, she was a free punching bag for the MSM and comics, who were free to create whatever message they wanted, while Palin's hands were tied in her ability to respond. The MSM shaping the message of Republicans will always be a problem for Republicans, but we can't let that be the cause for discarding our "rising stars" while they are still rising. Let them evolve. Let them learn the ropes.
4. In my opinion, Palin and Jindal are no worse or better at presenting themselves than any of the Democrats. The Democrats just don't have the media distorting the lens the way they do for Republicans. You have to look past the caricature and painted imagery that's being presented to you. Nobody ever said "Oh, God!" when a Democrat appeared on the screen.

The people who fight the "birthers" using the argument of Obama Derangement Syndrome are justifying the claim by the fact that no court has accepted a legal challenge without actual evidence. The lack of evidence is only a high bar in courtroom appeals. As we see here in the MSM, they are trying to portray Limbaugh as the head of the GOP without evidence, only to set him up as the boogeyman for their attacks. Yet we shy away from accusing Obama as being the illegitimate leader of the Democrat party because we can't prove it in a court of law.
Every time someone in the court of public opinion claims that Limbaugh is the face of the GOP, we should respond that Obama is a Constitutionally unqualified president. Then let that lead into a presentation of facts to support both claims.

I said it time and time again that the RNC should have run some ads with Governor Palin doing the talking directly to America so people could hear her say something more than just her stump speech or hear her in biased , edited interviews. America could have seen her as something other than SNL portrayed her.She could have controlled the message , but they didn’t do it.
“Dick, Im lost.”
“The president(?) by rank officially has a higher position
and status than any civilian, including Limbaugh.”

Hmmm...
Officially, rank, position, status?
Not things that really impress me, at least not as much as intelligence, honesty, truth, and balls to go by that. The American citizen outranks all politicians, elected, unelected, wannabees, etc. Elected, they just work for the people, that’s all—notwithstanding the unlawful use of force.
“Dick, Im lost.”

Nah, you don’t mean that!
It gets confusing sometimes—I go by the old KISS formula—Keep It Simple Stupid.

I’ve been thinking about this part of your post.
Lastly, there were herculean efforts from the GOP to reach out to college voters this year and in 2004. I know, I worked plenty of campus campaign booths and talked to probably thousands of college kids in the process. Did you? Let me tell you, they werent biting. Why werent they biting because young people view conservatives as fat white guys who are culturally, racially, gender and environmentally insensitive. Now, is that true? No, but that the perception; and were back to the perception is reality axiom.
Are you young? In college? Just out of college?
I noticed that you didn’t address the Carter portion of my post, nor commented on the article I linked, so I wonder if you noticed what I said.
Too, judging from your response, it suggests that you are young.
If so, might I make a suggestion?
Please...try not to be so haughty, and all knowing. ;o)
If you are young, I apologize for my astroturfing accusations.
IF you are young, you have your youthful experiences to draw upon.
I totally get that.
One thing you will get around FR is plenty of voiced experiences. ;o)
However, you would be smart to read of those experiences, as many of us lived under the Carter presidency.
History has a way of repeating itself, and I think we are getting just that...only it’s on speed!
There is a civil war going on in the Republican Party.
The “elitists”, who inhabit the Manhatten/DC corridor don’t like those of us who live in flyover country any more than the ‘Rats do.
The good news is that there is buyer’s remorse setting in.
David Brooks and Christopher Buckley have expressed such.
IF you are young, and not one of the Manhatten/DC corridor elitists, I welcome you to Free Republic.
Just don’t try to change us old fart Reagan conservatives.
Despite our age, we are the future. ;o)
I’ve got news for you.
There will be so many people whose 401Ks and portfolios have been devastated, not to mention their household incomes, that they would vote for anyone whose rhetoric, and connection to the people, bears any resemblance to Reagan.
Palin and Jindal fit that bill...and I’m sure that there are others on the bench.
Am I young? Sure I feel very young. Of course, there was the college graduation in the 80's and those twenty years in the Marines and the last six years as a entrepreneur and business owner. And of course there's been my active support, both financially and personally for the GOP since three days after I left active duty.
But, other than that, I'm a real spring chicken.
:)
That's simply not true. She appeals to men and women of the conservative base. That's it. Wishing the reality to be something else won't make it so.
Palin ran in a general election and lost. Second fiddle, yes, but she had ample opportunity to reach out and appeal to the middle. She failed miserably. Winning a backwater, redneck state like Alaska proves nothing about her ability to appeal to moderates, either.
Her appeal continues to be only to the GOP base. No candidate who appeals only to the base has a prayer in winning the gerenal election. None.
We'll see how Jindal does, but I'm not holding my breath.
You have polling data to demonstrate Palin’s lack of appeal to moderate voters?
Or are you just projecting your own attitudes and experiences?
Honest question; I’m not sold on Palin, but I think she hits a lot of the marks you cite further above.
For purposes of discussion, this is the last poll I’ve found on Palin’s favourable/unfavourables:
http://abcnews.go.com/PollingUnit/Politics/Story?id=6105651&page=2
She took a hit when the bottom fell out of McCain’s campaign, but I don’t know of any Republican with better national numbers—beyond the fact that most of them have zero name recognition to start.
Unaffiliateds also seem to think Palin is the best way forward for the Republicans of the brands currently on the table:
This is not the most up to date poll. I couldn't find another. I'm sure if you search the web you'll find one:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/10/24/AR2008102402698.html?hpid=topnews
Or are you just projecting your own attitudes and experiences?
I'm not a moderate voter.
Palin’s favourability bottomed out at around 48%, she’s back up around 52% in the January poll I linked earlier.
Given control of her image and a campaign built around making her look good, rather than preventing her from overshadowing McCain, I’d like her chances as much as any Republican’s—or any conservative’s.
