N.Y. Catholics: Dems Trying to Bankrupt Church

Democrats have declared war on the Catholic Church, with new laws that threaten to bankrupt Catholic schools, hospitals, charities and parishes. Thus far, the worst attacks have come in New York.

“We’ve taken a lot of hits this year,” Dennis Poust, spokesman for the New York State Catholic Conference, tells Newsmax. “Outside the government, the Catholic Church is the largest provider of health, human services and education in [New York]. But some legislators are so driven by malice that they’re willing to see our charities and schools go under.”

If they had held good moral positions they would not be making fiscally liberal decisions. When you know that God is your provider you don’t look to govt. for help. When you don’t who God is, you look to the world for your provisions which makes you very fiscally liberal.

Belief in God’s word is the foundation from which conservative belief springs. Those who don’t know it or who veer from it have nothing to stand on but their own personal ideas and when everyone does what is right in their own sight, you have chaos and anarchy.

I agree with you. Problem is, they think that their benevolent feeling for the poor IS a good moral position when really it's just sentimentality.

They think that the provision for every need is godly. In truth, God provides but universal provision can't happen here on earth (which is liberation theology heresy); that's reserved for heaven.

Here in NE the Catholic church has been riding and pushing the ‘social justice’ over and above any anti-abortion message. The message is clear by implication - don’t be afraid of ‘change’, embrace ‘hope and change’, you must protect the environment and oh yes, don’t forget to increase your donation.

Today’s (Sunday) edition of the Boston Globe has an article commenting on the evolving ‘love-fest’ between Cardinal O’Malley and the aggressively pro-abortion (and I believe “Catholic’) Mayer Menino. The article made the point that O’Malley despite earlier objection to the pro-abortion position, the two are great friends and partners now.

Given the message from the pulpit and our own little parish in New Hampshire, I find the 55% vote for the Big O - is definitely believable and is NOT just immigrants. Friends in parishes in upstate NY, OHIO, etc. are all seeing the same leftist crap. Refusing to recognize the take over by the ‘Pink Mafia’ in our seminiaries and episicopate is what led to the abuse problem. Don’t let it happen again.

the Pope himself is pretty much a globalist economic socialist.

You are a very ignorant and petty person.

All very true.

Let's keep this in perspective, though. Even if we accept, for the sake of argument, the findings of the notoriously biased exit polls, Pew reports that those in the "White Protestant/Other Christian" category voted 65-34 for McCain, while the "White Catholic" group voted 52-47 for McCain.

McCain won both groups.

We should not underestimate the extent to which misguided racial solidarity influenced many Obama supporters, Catholic and non-Catholic alike.

“some legislators are so driven by malice”

as Rush said last night, Dems are actually quite cruel.

When it all started:

The US Catholic Bishops DID NOT vigorously defend Pope Paul VI’s stance against artificial birth control. As a result, priests “in the trenches” were not disciplined, or supported. A great many things began to be tolerated in the name of a “Pastoral” approach.

EVERYTHING afterward within the American Catholic Church has stemmed from this fact.

Catholics are great social conservatives but largely fail in the fiscal conservatism category.

Educate yourself, slick.

The reality is that you have no idea as to what the actual methodology of the poll you’re using as a crutch was.

I agree. I remember that for a long period of time, most homilies were about "social justice," to the detriment of teaching Catholic doctrine and practices.

I got sick and tired of hearing about it, and feeling guilty that I wasn't picking lettuce with migrant workers.

As a result of this lib focus, there are people who do not know that they must do something penitential in nature EVERY Friday. All they know is that it's ok to eat meat.

Thanks so much for bringing this article to my attention. I hadn't seen it until you provided the link.

BTW, I'll never forget what the MSM did to Paul VI. He endured an extended martyrdom from within and without, for the sake of the Truth and the Church.

“Practicing” Catholics, those who regularly attend Mass, receive the Sacraments and following the teachings of the Church, did NOT vote for Obama. The abortion issue makes it impossible for any faithful Catholic to support him. Lapsed Catholics, who no longer believe or practice, may support him, as may the many who were baptized Catholics in infancy but not raised, instructed or brought up in the faith. People like Biden, the Kennedys, Sebelius, Kerry all belong to the latter two categories. Sadly CINOS probably outnumber “real” Catholics in States like NY and Massachusetts.

I previously wrote: Rather, I think they are doing this, at least partly, because Catholic schools, hospitals and charities provide a private alternative to government services. Therefore they must be eliminated.

To which Sun replied: That’s right. In their Catholic-bashing mode, they are forgetting the big picture, and shame on them!

Sun, I think you've hit the nail on the head.

It is remarkable to me that, in a thread which has so far generated 95 posts, almost none addressed the topic of the posted article, which concerns a systematic effort by Democrats in one of the wealthiest and most populous states of this Union, to use the blunt hammer of government to bludgeon to death the largest private provider of education, health care and charity in the state.

We Catholics must pull together in this fight, for it is clear we will have few allies.

I am reminded of the Battle of Lepanto of 1571, in which Pope Pius V rallied the Catholic armies of Europe to repel the Turks. The Protestant nations of that time offered no help, for they were too busy fighting the Catholic Church to worry about fighting the enemies of Western Civilization.

The Church saved Europe from Islamic conquest. Ironically, she also ended up saving the Protestants, in the process. I don't believe most Protestants are aware of this fact, for their schools do not teach it.

What we accomplished in 1571 we must accomplish again. We must once again save Christendom from her enemies, with or without the help of the Protestants.

May God grant us victory in this struggle.

You make a great point. We've encountered some of the same problem in our Baptist churches.

How do you fix the problem if you don't figure out who put these Rats in power?

It's real easy to complain after the fact. The hard part is fixing the problem within churches. There are too many "Christians" who vote for these people.

Yep, it "proves" it," LOL.

Gimme a break!
