It was about an hour and 13 minutes.

“I caught it late last night on CSPAN.”

When C-SPAN ran the speech, they edited out a comment Rush made about the “new castrati”. I’d seen the speech live with the castrati comment, and then again with my husband. At one point there was a jerk in the video so you knew something had been tampered with. Found out later it was the castrati remark.

I’m disappointed; I’d always believed C-SPAN ran pure events, but I’ve been wrong.

Our beliefs are our hearts. We don’t have to make notes about what we believe. We don’t have to write down, oh do I believe it do I believe that we can tell people what we believe off the top of our heads and we can do it with passion and we can do it with clarity, and we can do it persuasively. Some of us just haven’t had the inspiration or motivation to do so in a number of years, but that’s about to change. [Cheers and Applause]

I thought he would follow that with:

I’M RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT IN 2012!

We believe that the preamble to the Constitution contains an inarguable truth that we are all endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights, among them life. [Applause] Liberty, Freedom. [Applause] And the pursuit of happiness.

This little gaffe is getting some play.

Better to believe that "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" is found in the Constitution than to pursue a path that treats both the Declaration and Constitution as anachronisms to be ignored.

Dittos on your thoughts. I didn’t see the speech (even online - yet), but hope to see it later this week (when I have time).

You’re very welcome. Glad to see that there is at least ONE strong flag-bearer for the Republican party (Rush). Now if we can only get a few solid Senatorial/Representative/Presidential candidates to step forward we can start building a little momentum for 2010 & 2012.

I agree. The time is ripe for “Dan’s Bake Sale II”.

I know I’m going to sound like the “odd man out” with most of the posters here at FR, but Newt is DA MAN for me for President in 2012. A Newt/Palin ticket would galvanize the conservative movement like it’s never been before (and how it was since Reagan). Sure, Newt has a bit of “baggage”, but the way things are going with the liberal newspapers shrinking (and going out of business) I don’t see the liberal press (at least the newspapers) being a factor in 2012 anyways.

Newt has an incredible mind. I would imagine that there would be a spot for him in a Palin administration.
Though let there be no mistake on who the focus should be on as the 2012 contender. Only one person is capable of energizing this nation much as Reagan did in the 80s. Only one person personifies the qualities of what Thomas Jefferson said was the ideal President, that being the citizen-politician. Only one person possesses the utter unselfishness and love of America that Reagan and Jefferson did.
Of course that person is Sarah Palin.

I see where you are coming from — and concur. As long as Newt is involved in SOME capacity in a Republican administration — that’s fine with me. He is a man of ideas. Lots of them. (I do have reservations about his “environmentalist tendencies though.)
