Obama's tax plan will hit Silicon Valley hard
Mercury News ^ | Feb. 28, 2009 | Pete Carey and Mike Swift

President Barack Obama's tax plan, which would boost income taxes on those earning $250,000 or more a year, would affect about twice the share of taxpayers in Santa Clara County as in the state and nation.

That's because there are more people here who earn high incomes, and the plan would take more of their income in taxes while cutting back on one of the few deductions available to them - mortgage interest.

"Long term, there is going be some pain involved" for these taxpayers, said Michael Gray, a San Jose certified public accountant.

That income class includes about 43,000 taxpayers in Santa Clara County - nearly double the number of any other county in the Bay Area - which amounts to nearly 6 percent of the county's tax filers, according to data analyzed Friday by the Franchise Tax Board at the request of the Mercury News.

"Well, they voted for Obama overwhelmingly."

But we will suffer for it. A pox on the lot.

"Obama’s tax plan will hit everybody hard!"

It already has. This bat eared moron has caused more damage in one month than Jimmy Peanuts did in four years. Welcome to the brave new world.

I’m a Project Manager for a small software company in the North Bay and about 90% of the people here think Obama is the greatest thing ever.

I should get paid double to have to listen to them spewing their ignorance all day.

And it is ignorance. It’s one thing when people make an actual informed decision. It’s another when they base their vote on what they saw/heard on SNL or “The Daily Show” or some other left-wing parody of conservatives.

These people think BJ Clinton was impeached for getting a BJ

When I show them the text of the articles of Impeachment, and how Clinton also lied to a Federal court under oath to evade his responsibility in a sexual harassment lawsuit in which he was the defendant, they look at me like I’m a martian.

“No! The Republicans Impeached him for having an affair”

Yes, they really think that.

When some of these ding dongs get laid off, I’m going to tell them to go ask Obama for a job and for him to pay their rent/mortgage/car payment/medical bills/etc...

For California this is actually good news. Maybe these Obama/Pelosi voters will have to leave the state and break up the Democrat stranglehold, let some regular Americans enjoy one of the most beautiful areas in the country for a change. Either that or they’ll get normal jobs and become conservatives. Win/win!

Good report from behind the front lines....the ignorance has to be systemic for the Odumbo to get elected. Just remember it also took a lot of vote fraud, illegit campaign contributions and a media fraught with CYA.

President Obama is angrily calling for more federal tax increases. He just heard from his advisors that some American taxpayers weren’t completely broke yet.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought Obama’s plan was to wait for the Bush tax cuts of 2001 to expire in 2011 before raising marginal tax rates, right?

It’s too bad that we can’t buy stock in the federal tax system. With Obama as president that will be only thing sure to go up.

Give them a waiver. They got a mod to the housing bailout plan for their more expensive homes. So, give them a break on this, too.

They are more equal...

I have a suggestion (in the voice of deceased Sam Kennison) - STOP VOTING FOR COMMUNISTS!!! With the electoral votes CA caries for POTUS combined with the communist POS congressmen/women that CA foists on the rest of the nation (e.g. Pelosi), not to mention the burden of illegals and other undesirable trends like gay marriage and “medicinal marijuana” - it severely hurts the rest of the nation. Also, the sub-prime fiasco (liar loans) started in CA, which has spread across the nation. So while I feel bad for the 2 or 3 conservatives who live in the state - CA needs a serious slap in the face to wake the F-up!!!

Unfortunely I'm one of of those out of work Silicon Valley engineers ... and the headline is right ... during the last economical downturn there were at least some jobs to compete for. I have seen only one job in my discipline become available in the last 6 months and that one required re-location to San Diego. I passed the interview for the position and was ready to start when I was informed that the company ... a rather large one ... had lost their funding and the position was no longer available. In 30 years of engineering I have never seen things anywhere near as bad as it is now. The last few years I had been preparing my lifesyle to be able to live on half salary but very few can live on no income and now since the 401K is gone thanks to the crash ... that cushion is gone too. My plan a couple of years ago was to sell the house at some profit and retire to Texas or Florida or elsewhere where the housing prices were lots less than what they are here. Now that our house has dropped to less than half of what it appraised for two years ago and is not worth what I owe on it, that dream is gone.

In the meantime, I'm still looking in and out of my discipline for gainful employment as we try to wait out the FUBO disaster.

I have many conservative colleagues (not all Silicon Valley people are liberals) in the same boat. We represent a major part of what is left of the technical edge in this country ... the economic devastation being reeked on Silicon Valley will have far reaching implications
