Ronald Reagan was a Democrat for many years. He supported “no-fault” divorce and abortion while governor of CA. That said, he modified his postions and became one of the greatest, if not THE greatest president in this country’s history.
I’d say RR’s divorce and abortion laws were worse than anything Mitt did.
Mitt is far from ideal - but I’d take him in the White House over what currently resides there.
You didn’t answer the questions about Romney did you. Instead you went to Reagan and his not formally registering republican until 1962.
It makes a difference what decade and historical period things take place.
Why was Romney against Reagan during the Reagan Revolution of the 1980s and why was he still against conservatism and against the Gingrich Revolution of the 90s?
Why was Romney still on the left during the 60s, the Roe vs Wade 70s, the Reagan 80s, the Gingrich 90s, and the first half of the 2000s.
Where was Romney during all the great battles for pro life and school boards and stopping communism and the Soviet Union and on and on.
Being a 58 year old liberal in 2005 is a whole different thing than being a democrat before the 60s and Vietnam and so on.
Reagan was a confirmed conservative by the time he was 41. He voted for Eisenhower twice, in 52&56 and then for Nixon in 1960. Reagan became a Republican in 1962 and spent the next 18 years serving as a successful two term Governor of America's largest state, Presidential candidate twice and as a national commentator, the voice of the conservative movement in America. In 1980, Reagan became President and the rest is history.
Romney has no conservative credentials to speak of. He was almost 60 years old when he made his first conservative noises. Romney can barely call himself a Republican. Willard was a one term Governor whose biggest accomplishment was putting Massachusetts on the path to socialized medicine. BFD! Comparing Romney to Reagan, is like comparing Obama to Lincoln. LOL
