Enhanced Drivers License Project

 

Summary

The enhanced Drivers License Project began in May 1997, with the intention of creating a drivers license that would have more security features. Now, over a year later, the Motor Vehicle Division awards the EDL contract to Viisage Technologies, a Division of Lau Technologies. The Enhanced Drivers License is a combination of three technologies; first, a digital image that is stored as part of the driving record, second, a digital signature that is also captured and stored, and third, a magnetic stripe that encodes the printed information on the license. Besides enhancing the security of the license, the enhanced Drivers License will create additional customer service opportunities for the Division.

  Future of EDL
