I have been a Marine for 28 years, then worked for the Marine Corps for 13 years so far and the quality and dedication of the young Marines today never fails to amaze me!

A lot of things change and usually get worse, but if anything, today's Marines are the best ever - and that's saying a lot because the Marines that I served with in Vietnam were superb.

I can’t tell you how much I am glad to hear that.

Being Navy,I had the usual love/hate relationship with the corps—they were, after all,the brig guards on my ship and they delighted in giving incarcerated sailors the “Paris Island” treatment while confined.

But no better buddies could be found on liberty—fist-fights and all.

I’ll second your comment. I served as an enlisted Marine in the early and mid, peacetime 90s. Today I’m a Navy chaplain currently serving my second tour with Marines in Iraq. Some of these guys have been over here 5 times. They are commited and keep doing it. They love what they do and will continue to serve.
