Happy Rain, I am not going to be as nice as the other responders.

How dare you even equate the Marine Corps with the SS that way! At this point, IMO, you are no better than Murtha and Biden; besmirching the Marines (and military in general) this way.

Unlike you (squiddly diddly), I know what I speak of.

USMC 86-95
Desert Storm
Southern Watch

I have been a Marine for 28 years, then worked for the Marine Corps for 13 years so far and the quality and dedication of the young Marines today never fails to amaze me!

A lot of things change and usually get worse, but if anything, today's Marines are the best ever - and that's saying a lot because the Marines that I served with in Vietnam were superb.

I am not a Marine, though my brother and brother-in-law were. I was Army. Having said that, if I had to trust the life and safety of my family to a total stranger, and I could pick the stranger, I would pick a Marine Corps Drill Instructor.

The military are not automata. They have sworn an oath to the Constitution, not to a person. Most members of the Armed Forces would reject such an oath as illegal.

I can’t tell you how much I am glad to hear that.

Being Navy,I had the usual love/hate relationship with the corps—they were, after all,the brig guards on my ship and they delighted in giving incarcerated sailors the “Paris Island” treatment while confined.

But no better buddies could be found on liberty—fist-fights and all.

I’ll second your comment. I served as an enlisted Marine in the early and mid, peacetime 90s. Today I’m a Navy chaplain currently serving my second tour with Marines in Iraq. Some of these guys have been over here 5 times. They are commited and keep doing it. They love what they do and will continue to serve.

Hopefully, President Obama will delegate responsibility in Iraq to somebody who is competent and supports the mission.

By the time the Iraq War is "ended" there will be no such officers available. They will have been purged, the way Clinton cleaned out the military.

All they have to do is ask the cameramen to take their shots like that. The cameramen are mostly already in that bag and will do so gladly. Those that don’t will not see their shots published or another paycheck.

I noticed that too. He expected applause and when there was none, he moved on. It was barely noticeable.

The contrast between how the troops responded to GWB and to Zero was very evident. Any reporter covering this saw it and either failed to admit it or flat out denied it.

US troops have maintained peace and prosperity in Europe, Japan and S.Korea successfully for over 50 Years. Several thoughts:

1. bring home all the troops from over the world, and the fleets into home port to pay for transforming the US into socialism (change is he name).

2. If we continue protecting these others, are we not discriminating against the people of the Mideast by not a continued protective force?

Disgraceful.

Our volunteer military hails mostly from Red States. Only a small number of our people have military backgrounds. However, I would put them up against all the rest on any day and feel confident betting the farm on the troops.

>>That’s my concern, too. Somewhere it was mentioned that these would be “non-combat” troops. Does that mean they simply get to sit there and endure attacks?<<

Some will apparently be marines for counter terrorism but the bulk will be non-combat who “may be forced to assume a combat role.”
