Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

Yeshua, Jew, Son of God, The One And Only City of God, Jerusalem ~20AD.

I look at charity and alms differently, with a charity, you have to drum up support so others will join you in your cause. A charity is like the alms box, you don’t hide the alms box, you leave it out so people will know where to give- their giving they may choose to do in private.

Ok, this is just a general question. I know lots of church groups that donate but they do not trumpet with news articles and stories. I have a question, why do the lds advertise what they do in such a public fashion?

“I look at charity and alms differently”

than Jesus!?

I agree drum up support for good works, but the author is using it to say “LDS good, LDS done this”, the TITLE screams phariseeicalism. This is exactly the kind of thing Jesus preached against in Matthew 6. I’m only saying the author was wrong in their presentation. And possibly people who promoted the article if in the same spirit

author would have been more persuasive leaving the LDS relation until the 2nd paragraph. doing it this way just seems cheap

should’ve just been “wheelchair donation leaves Iraqi’s wheeling good”, then you read, THEN you see LDS later & you think “yeah they’re good, not crazy crackers, bless them”

But this way you just think “self-serving soul soliciting”.

So very point on.

Its like the Pharisees who fasted standing on the corner dirty and complaining about how hungry they were. I seem to recall that Jesus said wash your clothes, comb your hair and go about your business, Fasting is between you and God. (ok paraphrased to be sure).

This is not a Religion forum thread - please do not drag dogmatic battles into it.

I am sorry some of you choose to seek us out but this is general news where I treid to post to LDS members,

I use to post it under caucus whihc is for behind and Activist thread I want to communicate with those who are LDS so I decide to post on General and not N/A

the Lord also said

Luke 6
37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

so please go in peace

Gee, your question is so nuetral, but let me take a stab. The paper it is in is mostly read my Mormons. Therefore, it is nice to see what works are being done by one’s church. However, it does invite the rabid LDS haters to post their diatribes. I guess if I was an old bag lady with no husband and no teeth and no life, and my miserable life was almost over with, I just might post a long post to build myself up while tearing down others. Crazy like a foxx.

I know this was not to me. But the points are valid. People are wondering why the lds (who did a good thing here) must what appears to promote lds in the headline and first paragraphs.

Why not write the story and have it in the story that these were lds, it is the appearance of self promotion that is at question.

“Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven”

Quite possibly the most misused verse in the Bible. A full discussion of which would take an extremely long time.

My point is right. They should have left it until later, and it would have been more persuasive. I’m trying to help you! I WANT there to be better relations between LDS & proper Christians! We totally should be on the same team. You’re totally wrong about loads of stuff but that’s OK. You’re cool anyway.
