Bush Talks About Life Outside the White House 'The Only Thing We Don't Have Are the Newspapers,' Says Former First Lady By JONATHAN KARL and KAREN TRAVERS

HOUSTON Feb. 26, 2009—

Commercial airline travel, trips to the hardware store for nightlights and walks around the neighborhood all part of everyday life these days for former President George W. Bush and his wife, former first lady Laura Bush.

In an exclusive interview with ABC News, Mrs. Bush said she and her husband were settling into a normal, post-presidency life at their new home in the Preston Hollow section of Dallas after spending a month at their ranch in Crawford while the house was finished.

Watch This Exclusive Interview With Laura Bush Tonight on 'World News' at 6:30 p.m. ET, and Again Tomorrow on 'Good Morning America', 7 a.m. ET

Mrs. Bush said she has yet to cook a meal herself, because friends have been bringing over prepared dinners to welcome them back to town. The Bushes have had several large dinner parties with old friends, but they had to resort to borrowing furniture to accommodate their guests.

"We have very little furniture. We don't have a kitchen table or a dining room table," she said. "Friends loaned me a kitchen table and the other night I had 16 people for dinner and I had to borrow chairs from the Secret Service next door."

After years of having everything they wanted right at their finger tips, the Bushes are finding that sometimes the little things are the most difficult to get.

"The only thing we don't have are the newspapers. It has been slow to get The Dallas Morning News delivered," she said. "People bring the newspaper to us later in the day. It's just not being delivered yet."

He probably didn’t retire in Crawford because that’s more of a vacation home to them. Is that okay with you or would you rather them not have a vacation home?

Ignore the freaky BDSers

Pretty sad how they've infested even this place. But he's better off where he is, away from the incessant whine of the children who demand perfection.

The Secret Service needed more space than they have at the ranch, post presidency. Laura picked out the house.

Cheney would never have been friends with him if what you imply is true... also Ted Nugent refutes what you say, along with Lance Armstrong.

Hey, he was a big spending liberal... or so I thought... until recently when I was reminded what the real thing does when in power. I'd take Bush back over that marxist/muzzie/satanist any day!

Thank you, President Bush, for keeping us safe post-9/11. I had my differences on other issues, though.

A couple of days after Obama took office, I heard a news report that Obama and the First Lady had visited a church in D.C. that morning. Startled by this news, I wondered, “What is Laura Bush doing in Washington and why would she be with Obama?” Then it dawned on me that she was no longer the First Lady. It takes some time to adjust to the changing of the guard.

Because he’s a classy guy. That’s why they hate him. You can’t fake sincerity.

Not a poser.

His wife did the politician wife thing for 16 years for him and he loves her, and Laura wanted the house in Dallas. It was her turn to get what she wanted.

Like Nancy Reagan wanted the house in the Pallisades, while Reagan loved the ranch in the sky. Was Reagan a poser?

I would also like to thank President Bush for commuting the sentences of the wrongly imprisoned border agents, Ramos and Compean. This meant a lot to many Americans.

Skip the Dallas Morning Snooze, Laura. They are in constant adoration of all things Obama.

The Dallas Morning News endorsed John Mccain over Obama.

BDS? Someone please tell me what it means.

Bush Derangement Syndrome. Afflicts both Left and Right. Often employed by the current occupant of the Oval Orifice and whenever there is a thread regarding the (former) President.

A responsive term often used by BDSers is "BushBot", implying that those who support the (former) President do so blindly, with pre-made arguments that sound like it would be programmed into a robot...as if only robots could compliment the (former) President.

(See also "Bushie" and "J****", the Spanish equivalent of the former President's first name, which more often than not got the post deleted by the mods)
