In tonight's mini-State of the Union, President Obama said the "nation that invented the automobile cannot walk away from it." One problem. We didn't. That would be Karl Benz, in Mannheim, Germany. Just sayin'...

Actually it is his youngster speech writer who doesn't know his history ... then it is all the staff who reviewed the speech and then finally it would be Obama himself ... they are so silly. They just make stuff up.

~LOL~ that’s fine, but someone else read the speech and Obama delivered the speech; clearly NONE of them knew Henry Ford didn’t invent the automobile.

Wow, that one sent me to Google! LOL!

Mercedes was the name of the daughter of a racer who drove early DMG cars (Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft). The brand name Mercedes-Benz was owned by the production company Daimler-Benz, which was formed when DMG merged with Benz & Cie.
I knew the Mercedes name was from someone's daughter, but had to look up that said someone, and the full history of how the name "Mercedes-Benz" came to be.

"Mercedes" was the 10-year-old daughter of the very first auto dealer in the world, Emil Jellinek, when he ordered over 35 Daimler-Benz cars to handle, and put her name on the vehicles. The prototype internal combustion machine had been patented in 1885 by Karl Benz, and the gas engine by Gottlieb Damiler that same year.
Speaking of cars, the Frick Museum in Pittsburgh PA has an 1898 French luxury car, which looks fantastic.

At least Palin was right when she said she could see Russia from her house, but Obama wasn’t even close....Germany is a whole other country half way round the world. The speechwriter should be fired.
