He said he would reinstitute a pay-as-you-go rule that calls for spending reductions to match increases and would shun what he said were the past few years' "casual dishonesty of hiding irresponsible spending with clever accounting tricks." He called the long-term solvency of Social Security "the single most pressing fiscal challenge we face by far" and said reforming health care, including burgeoning entitlement programs, was a huge priority.

Wall Street seemed unimpressed by all the talk. The Dow Jones industrials dropped 251 points for the day.

I remember Judge Reinhold in “Ruthless People” talking about speakers. It went something like this: “We mark the speakers up 300 percent, then knock off 50 percent to give the illusion that the customer is getting a good deal.”

Eerily, it sounds a lot like what President Obama is promising with the deficit.

Isn't that nicely done? The left may be fools, but they are not idiots, nor are they untalented. More's the pity. As Maxwell Smart once said, "If only they had used their powers for niceness instead of evil."

I talked to someone pretty high up the military food chain in the Army today.

The Obama propaganda of "slashing the deficit" is a smoke screen.

What Obama is really planning is a huge slash in defense spending.

We are talking about a HUGE cut here. The 25% bandied about is only a "down payment" and the real number he probably wants is 40% or greater.

It probably will not be peanut butter spread evenly across the services either. Expect massive cuts in weapons programs and troops.

Some sections of the MSM have reported shades of this, but the whole ugly truth is not yet grasped by the public.

After a string of costly bailout and stimulus measures, President Obama will set a goal this week to cut the annual deficit at least in half by the end of his term, administration officials said. The reduction would come in large part through Iraq troop withdrawals and higher taxes on the wealthy.

The dictator does not care a wit about the deficit. He wants to ruin the military and go after the "rich."

Another target is spending on private contractors, especially for defense, which spiked during the Bush administration. And he will scale back some promises, including his proposal to double money for foreign aid.

If you, or someone you know, is a defense contractor, you may want to get out now and find something else to do before it is too late.

He was for the deficit before he was against it.

The left is controlled by some very intelligent people. Their followers don’t get it.

The right is mad that their politicians do not follow the constitution. Their politicians don’t get it.

My suggestion to all elected members of congress is, be the MOST ethical congress Nancy says you are, and give all gifts the lobbyists shower you with to Salvation Army in your districts. Can you imagine?

IT’S FOR THE CHILDREN.
